Program Dates: Tuesday April 21st- Thursday April 23rd
Program Hours: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Staff Hours: 8:00 AM -1:00 PM
Location:Collins Middle School
Program Overview:
We will be running two vacation programs for middle school students.
- Math & Social Justice Academy
- Focus: Investigating cell phone use in schools to increase student sense of belonging and attendance.
- Activities: Skill-building sessions data collection and analysis and a field trip to the SSU Maker Space for final project presentations.
- Youth Wellness Program
- Focus: Promoting physical and mental well-being through varied community experiences.
- Activities: Fitness sessions at Reck Fitness Cool Calm and Creative art sessions beginners yoga at the Salem YMCA and smoothie making.
Job Summary: Program Staff will be responsible for a small group of students throughout the program. Responsibilities include providing social-emotional support mitigating conflict assisting with content management supporting community partners in facilitating activities communication and outreach to ensure daily attendance and maintaining consistent communication with families.

Program Staff Responsibilities:
Pre-Program Planning
- Participate in planning meetings with program leadership prior to the start date to align curriculum and student goals.
- Collaborate with community partners to plan and facilitate day-to-day logistics and ensure all external facilitators are prepared for student engagement.
- Coordinate and confirm session schedules to ensure a seamless transition between guest speakers field trips and enrichment activities
Cohort Student Support & Job Readiness Alignment
- Lead a dedicated cohort of 8-12 students serving as their primary point of contact to ensure a personalized and supportive experience.
- Actively bridge program content with real-world application helping students translate daily activities into essential life skills.
- Model professional behavior by participating fully in all field trips guest speaker sessions and hands-on enrichment activities.
High-Quality Learning Environment
- Foster an inclusive high-energy environment that prioritizes the fun and kind atmosphere students value.
- Provide proactive emotional guidance and conflict resolution to maintain a safe productive space for all participants. Ensure any critical incidents that may arise are reported in an accurate and timely manner.
- Partner closely with community leaders and guest facilitators to ensure activities are delivered smoothly and meet program objectives.
Attendance & Family Outreach
- Facilitate pre-program outreach to families to build rapport and ensure students are prepared for the first day.
- Manage daily attendance through direct communication with families including troubleshooting transportation barriers to ensure consistent student participation.
- Keep families and school-based staff informed of student highlights progress and any challenges encountered during the three-day session.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with middle and high school aged students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build rapport quickly.
- Ability to provide comprehensive social and emotional support to students.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a commitment to consistent attendance.
- Ability to maintain professional communication with families.
Compensation: $1000 Stipend
