The Disabilities Resource Center (DRC) at Santa Fe College (SF) is committed to providing equal access and equal opportunity for students with disabilities to ensure full participation in all aspects of SF College accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) it is the mission of the DRC to provide comprehensive information for students with disabilities establish and facilitate reasonable academic adjustments for qualified students with disabilities and serve as a college-wide resources on disability related matters.

The Coordinator provides leadership in the planning development evaluation and improvement of the DRC to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This position ensures equal educational opportunities; promotes learning through the management of the DRCs personnel facilities and budget; and advocates maintaining a welcoming academic physical and social environment for students with disabilities by providing college-wide oversight reporting and coordination of services for qualified students.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Promotes and supports the colleges strong commitment to inclusion and sense of belonging throughout the SF community.

  • Supervises the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to disability services in compliance with SF values college rules as well as state and federal laws.

  • Works with the college to review develop refine and implement college policies and procedures related to disability services and accessibility.

  • Works with campus departments to ensure that all academic programs student activities and facilities are accessible for students with disabilities.

  • Leads supervises and evaluates the DRC staff and facilitate opportunities for staff professional development.

  • Develops manages and tracks the department budget and other fiscal and related resources.

  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of campus-wide events and programs designed to educate and inform the community about disability access and inclusion.

  • Serves as a resource for the college regarding accessibility accommodations and other disability related issues; provides information on court/government agency rulings and interpretations affecting services for students with disabilities interpret mandates and make recommendations/decisions related to those issues.

  • Serves as a consultant to the Human Resources Department with regards to accommodations for faculty and staff.

  • Serves as a consultant to the Workforce Development (Continuing Ed) for related reasonable and appropriate accommodations.

  • Maintains an active presence in the disabilities services community to build and maintain collaborative partnerships.

  • Develops community partnerships to enhance fulfillment of project objectives and promote opportunities for the students who are served in the project.

  • Remains current on national trends issues and literature related to students with disabilities and disability-related services including participating in professional development activities researching best practices and addressing transition issues for students with disabilities entering and navigating through the postsecondary education environments.

  • Evaluates services and prepares reports to assess and communicate DRC program activities services and outcomes.

  • Administers and develops program services necessary for meeting the reasonable accommodation requests generated by students with disabilities and others identifying as needing services (alternative testing interpreter and notetaking services alternative format material production and adaptive furniture/equipment).

  • Provides service to the college through participation in events committees and other college activities.

  • Complies with all published College Rules procedures guidelines and laws/regulations governing public employees including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction FERPA and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy security and confidentiality of records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state federal and college regulations policies and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous informed accessible and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Assistant Vice President Student Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelors degree in special education rehabilitation counseling school psychology higher education leadership or a related human services field with two (2) years of related experience including some supervisory and/or management experience or a combination of education and/or experience equal to six (6) years.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and legislation relative to accessibility and serving students with disabilities at the postsecondary level; familiar with disability documentation requirements and determining reasonable accommodations; five (5) years of work experience in disability services.
