Gards Sanctions Team is seeking a motivated and experienced adviser who will play a vital role in safeguarding Gards interests and reputation by ensuring compliance with sanctions regimes in various jurisdictions. This role can be based in Arendal or London.

In this role you will assist colleagues with legal advice on operational sanctions risks whilst navigating complex sanctions landscapes. Through your work you will be part of strengthening our risk profile and sanctions compliance processes. As a member of our Sanctions Team you will work with colleagues based in Arendal London New York Singapore Piraeus Tokyo Helsinki Oslo and Hong Kong. You will see our business from different perspectives and will work directly with colleagues globally.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to colleagues on sanctions-related inquiries.
  • Ensure that matters are escalated and dealt with at the correct level within the organisation.
  • To stay ahead of regulatory and commercial developments and to ensure alignment with regulations and company policy.
  • Develop implement and continuously improve sanctions-related processes and procedures within the Sanctions Team and for Gard as a whole.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of sanctions-related risk assessments.
  • Share and seek knowledge within the team and throughout Gard.
  • Provide sanctions training across the organisation.


About you:

  • Preferably a qualified lawyer with qualification from Norway England & Wales or a Common Law jurisdiction with the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy when dealing with legal enquiries.
  • Work experience from legal practice/qualification to practice law (preferred).
  • 2 years of experience working within maritime law or sanctions (preferred).
  • Excellent analytical skills accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to balance firmness in the advice with diplomacy when communicating.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach to learning with a team-focused mindset in knowledge sharing.
  • Thriving in a collaborative environment where the work is often delivered as a result of team efforts.
  • High degree of proficiency in using computer-based tools and applications.
