AGENCY OVERVIEW
The Jefferson County Sheriffs Office (JCSO) is in Louisville Kentucky and serves as the largest Sheriffs Office and fourth largest law enforcement agency in the state. Its approximately 250 sworn 60 civilian and 75 volunteer Reserve Deputies perform its main duties of providing court security serving court orders and collecting property taxes. The members of JCSO also serve the community by supporting the work of local charitable organizations and providing a positive presence that ensures the safety of residents of Jefferson County.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Records Clerks position supports the Administrative Services Division. This position involves working with both electronic and paper records and supports the response to open records requests.
Essential Functions
Performsroutine clerical work in answering telephones routing calls providing customer assistance word processing data entry filing and record keeping.
Operates photocopier computer and other office equipment.
Examples of Work
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION:
Answers phone calls provides information takes messages and routes calls.
Enters data and uses word processing to type routine memorandums reports letters forms or other documents.
Sorts files and retrieves materials and documents from files.
Distributes materials and documents.
Completes forms prepares routine reports and performs simple mathematical calculations.
Collates and assembles packets forms and other materials.
Operates photocopier computer and other office equipment.
Performsadditional duties as assigned/needed on a temporary basis (e.g. filling in for receptionist due to leave/sick time).
Performsrelated work as required.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift and/or carry file boxes and supplies of 20-40 lbs.
Visual acuity sufficient to handle the data-entry information-processing filing and sorting duties of the position.
Possesses sufficient speech and hearing necessary to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and on the phone.
The location of this position is Downtown Louisville at 515 West Market Street. This position is 100% on-site with working hours of 8:00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Experience working in a law enforcement agency.
Knowledge of open records process.
Experience redacting records.
Ability to research open records decisions laws and applicable retention standards according to state law.
Strong organization skills.
Ability to meet deadlines
SALARY/BENEFITS
The minimum salary for this position is $24.62 per hour.
Employees participate in the Non-Hazardous Duty retirement under CERS offered by the KPPA.
JCSO pays 100% medical premiums for single coverage and 90% for other plan levels.
Competitive plans for vision and dental.
Optional deferred compensation and life supplemental life insurance.
