The City Activation Community and Place Department is delivering a range of initiatives that aim to strengthen relationships with First Nations communities and embed culturalcapabilityacross Councils work. We are seeking a First Nations Project Officer to support this important program of work.
Reporting to the First Nations Program Manager this role willassistin the development and delivery of Councils Reconciliation Action Plan and contribute to initiatives that support stronger partnerships withthelocalFirst Nationscommunityand organisations. The position will also provide support to the Muru Murak Interagencyassistwith the development of cultural protocols and contribute to the delivery of Councils Caring for Country programs.
Working collaboratively with internal teams local Elders community members andFirst Nationsorganisations the First Nations Project Officer willsupportculturally respectful engagement support community initiatives and contribute to projects that recognise culture strengthen communityconnectionsand promote shared understanding across Penrith.

What are we looking for
In this role we are looking for someone who:
- Must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Person; must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and be accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person in the community in which they live (this is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977).
- Qualification in community development social science (such as Aboriginal studies arts culture communication policy) or a related field at a tertiary level
- Demonstrated experience of community work that focuses on processes driven by social justice and positive impact.
- Demonstrated confident verbal communicator with strong networking skills and an ability to communicate across a range of audiences.
- Excellent written skills including the writing of reports and correspondence.
- Proactive contributor to a positive team culture anda strong teamplayer.
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
- Current Class C driver license.
You willbe requiredto undertake employment checks which may include a Criminal History Check Qualification Check Working with Children Check Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test as relevant to the position for which you have applied.
Where a Criminal History Check isrequiredand has returned a result thatindicatesdisclosable court outcomes you willbe requiredto provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council for review to progress through the recruitment process.
