Position Title: YouthLine Outreach Coordinator Maui County
Status:Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Reports To:YouthLine Assistant Director of Education and Outreach HI
Salary:The starting salary for this position is $25.50 per hour plus a $1 per hour differential for hours worked in office or at designated outreach locations and a $2 differential if possessing a graduate degree in a related field. Please see below for more details on the compensation package.
Location: Maui HI. This position requires a hybrid schedule which includes working in-person at the YouthLine headquarters in Kahului HI typically Tuesday through Thursday when not doing offsite position requires the ability to regularly travel throughout Maui County and occasionally the state of Hawaii to lead outreach events in schools and communities as well as meet with community partners
About the Organization:Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention prevention and advocacy. We educate train and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse mental illness and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help. YouthLine a service of Lines for Life is a youth focused prevention crisis intervention training and youth development program.
YouthLine Outreach Coordinator Position Overview:
This position will schedule coordinate and conduct classroom education community outreach and special events; coach mentor and assist YouthLine volunteers and interns; support social media outreach opportunities and maintaining an active social media presence.
YouthLine Outreach Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organizations goals and philosophies.
- Serve as a regional youth suicide prevention and mental health champion raising awareness of YouthLine and other resources for youth-serving entities.
- Facilitate and help implement educational programming on suicide prevention including peer-to-peer outreach and engagement efforts where applicable.
- Communicate with school-based contacts to schedule and coordinate all logistics for classroom outreach.
- Establish new relationships with schools to provide YouthLine outreach where it has not previously occurred.
- Deliver presentations in Maui County middle and high schools to educate students and raise awareness about youth mental health suicide self injury depression and other sensitive subject matters.
- Identify and organize outreach activities to increase awareness of YouthLine across the region and state.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Education and Outreach to develop and implement an annual outreach strategy.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director of Education and Outreach HI and other YouthLine staff to fulfill requirements established through grants and contracts.
- Support implementation of the YouthLine social media strategy established by YouthLine Communications Manager and YouthLine Outreach Manager and the Assistant Director of Education and Outreach HI.
- Coach and mentor interns and volunteers through interactions at outreach activities.
- Collaborate with the Youth Development and Volunteer Coordinators in Portland to recruit a representative volunteer cohort for YouthLine HI.
- Co-facilitate the outreach portion of the YouthLine training for new volunteers and interns.
- Assist with YouthLine HI training and education to establish relationships with volunteers who will support with outreach.
- Attend monthly meetings and in-services for YouthLine HI volunteers.
- Identify partnership opportunities and resource referrals that will support the efforts of the YouthLine program including outreach to and volunteer recruitment from underserved communities such as youth of color 2SLGBTQIA youth youth in rural areas and youth with lived experience among others.
- Track data networking and progress on regional work as directed by the Assistant Director of Education and Outreach HI
- Performs other duties as assigned.
YouthLine Outreach Coordinator Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in related field (Social Work Counseling Teaching Education)
- At least two years of experience working with youth
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport coach andmentor teens and young adults
- Experience teaching or facilitating presentations for groups
- Strong aptitude for networking with a variety of communities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience or skills with community engagement
- Group management skills or experience
- Proficient with MS Office computer environment
- Intermediate social media skills
- Ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism and care
YouthLine Outreach Coordinator Preferred Qualifications:
- Crisis Intervention Training (i.e. ASIST safeTALK Youth Mental Health First Aid etc.)
- Experience with social media outreach
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Knowledge or experience with trauma-informed approaches
Travel & Schedule Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to regularly travel within Maui County (Maui Molokai & Lanai) to lead outreach events in schools and communities as well as meet with community partners. This position often drives YouthLine volunteers to outreach events.
- This position will require some flexibility in work schedule in order to meet outreach needs and will include working some evenings and weekends.
Compensation:This is a union position with a step progression based upon years of service at Lines for Life and below is the current step scale for the base rate and each step would have the $2 graduate degree differential (if applicable) and the $1 in-office differential (when applicable) added onto pay when applicable:
0-3 years: $25.50
3-5 years: $27.03
5-7 years: $28.65
7-10 years: $30.37
>10 years: $32.19
