This position is for 7hours per day at 178days per year.
And *7hours per day for 4days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed.
Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $ 24.76

*Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate of the state mandated Paraeducator Certificate Program per State requirements. Paraeducator Certificate Program is dependent upon State funding.

- Must be 18 years of age; and
- Hold high school diploma or its equivalent; and one of the following
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test orPearson Paraprofessional assessment

- Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
- Successful completion ofThe Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
Para testing information. SUMMARY
This positions responsibilities are for the purpose of supporting directly and indirectly the learning needs of visually impaired students. Position will facilitate communication between persons who are blind or have low vision and others; convey teacher instruction and intent; assists students with daily activities; participate as a team member to plan review and share information; serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with blind and low vision students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon the individual assignment the Vision Assistant may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Enhance the effectiveness of learning opportunities for students with visual impairments.
2. Assist students who are visually impaired/blind classroom teachers and classroom specialists with their work assignments and interpret instruction given by the teacher to the student.
3. Works with and under the immediate direction of the TVI.
4. Order return and distribute materials (including large print) under the TVls supervision.
5. Assist the TVI and district staff with modifications and supplemental services necessary for the education of students with visual impairment.
6. Provides direct and indirect teaching support to blind/visually impaired students as prescribed by the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) based on the IEP goals and objectives; teaches and reteach content material as needed.
7. Prepares and adapts tactile materials (maps models etc.) for students (frequent at a moments notice).
8. Assists in training students in the use of adaptive equipment.
9. Supports individual and/or group instruction and activities.

in training on any new Vision Impairment technology (e.g. software computers adaptive assisted devices etc.).
conferences and workshops to enhance professional skills.

serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Executive Director/Director of Special Services. Receives guidance from assigned Teacher of Visually Impaired (TVI) or assigned certificated staff.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Classroom and school environment. May experience frequent interruptions. Required to deal with a wide range of student behavior academic abilities and learning styles which may include angry or distraught students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required to lift carry push and/or pull some climbing and balancing frequent stooping kneeling crouching crawling bend or work in other positions besides sitting or standing. The use of significant fine finger dexterity. Required to meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines to include IEPs and other meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Certification and Experience
Hold a High School diploma or its equivalent and one of the following:
Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test
AA degree;
Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education;
Completed a registered apprenticeship program.
Experience working with visually impaired students preferred.
Experience working with special education students or students with cognitive or behavioral challenges preferred.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge to perform basic math including calculations using fractions percentages and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: student behavior management skills. Skills are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to occasional upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications preparing and maintaining accurate records. Ability to schedule activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals and work with a variety of data and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities communicating with diverse groups maintaining confidentiality setting priorities working as part of a team working with detailed information/ data. Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation abuse injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan. Valid Washington state drivers license. May be required to obtain first aid certification. May be required to attend training and become Right Response certified.
