Department Summary

The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development preventing behavioral health problems and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The PSI encompasses focus areas consistent with the field of prevention science including prevention and intervention and implementation science.

Understanding effective intervention strategies and the outcomes associated with these interventions across multiple domains of functioning including biological social and contextual is the focus of research at the PSI. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of children individuals and families throughout the lifespan. The PSI is committed to research that expands our understanding of interventions and development with diverse populations and actively seeks to promote research that reduces health disparities in service utilization.

Position Summary

The Research Assistant will be responsible for in-person and remote data collection for a broad set of assignments for Dr. Stephanie De Anda and Dr. Camille Cioffis federally funded human subjects research project. These projects are complex and includes coordinating with multiple community agencies longitudinal research studies community partnerships and human subjects data activities. The Research Assistant must be Spanish and English speaking.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for working with community partners who are SUD services providers. This includes tracking recruitment and retention of participants facilitating project assessment and ensuring quality and integrity of data collected for the project. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Lab Manager and the principal investigators to implement human subjects research activities primarily for recruitment data collection and data entry.

The Research Assistant will collect data in the form of interviews surveys observation tasks dynamic assessments with children and their parents using standardized procedures. Recruitment and data collection may occur in-person within family homes or at community organization sites or remotely via video addition the Research Assistant may support with entry and coding of collected data. This position will provide technological support and perform administrative tasks as needed to ensure effective and accurate data collection procedures. The Research Assistant will ensure data collection adheres to study protocols and be responsible for data reconciliation.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION:
Flexibility is required regarding work schedule and time (must be available on weekends and evenings) and includes frequent travel; the applicant must be able to assist staff with scheduling challenges as they arise; step into assessments as needed and accommodate study participants availability.
Must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive frequently to data collection sites using a university provided vehicle and must be able to complete the Driver Certification Form prior to driving a University owned vehicle.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in behavioral health psychology prevention science communication disorders and science education public health or other closely related field or an equivalent combination of skills experience and education.
Experience following protocols for assessing or delivering care to children and adults (for example human subjects data).
Bilingual Spanish sufficient to obtain provide or exchange information.

Professional Competencies

Ability to provide expertise in conducting standardized interviews assessments and other human-subjects research activities including participant recruitment and data management.
Ability to operate and manage technical equipment used in research and data collection (e.g. cameras audio recorders tablets mobile devices) with accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational planning and timemanagement skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities overlapping deadlines and frequent interruptions while maintaining professionalism and a high level of customer service.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to obtain provide and exchange information with project collaborators and staff while maintaining sensitivity confidentiality and diligence in handling personnel and humansubjects data.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds including during home visits communitybased work or other fieldbased data collection activities.
Ability to represent PSI in a professional and courteous manner with a wide range of stakeholders including investigators staff administrators students and research participants.
Ability to manage complex or dynamic work environments in a calm constructive and professional manner.
Ability to learn understand explain and comply with university and government policies rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience conducting standardized interviews or assessment protocols.
Experience with substance use disorder.
Experience with child language delays and disorders.
Experience working with Spanish speaking families.
Experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs including: Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Adobe Acrobat REDCap Zoom and Qualtrics.
Experience with in home data collection including collecting video data.
