Job Summary

Extended School Year - 3.5 hours daily

Position: Certified Occupational Therapist

Qualifications:

  • Must possess New York State Certification as an Occupational Therapist
  • High School Diploma and Bachelors Degree or above
  • Experience working with the pediatric population

Reports To:

  • Director of Pupil Personnel Services Administrator in building and classroom teacher(s)

Performance and Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of handicapping conditions that occur before and after birth and their effects on the sensory motor psychosocial and cognitive development of students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws regulations and procedures affecting occupational therapy services in school settings.
  • Knowledge of the educational system and its critical components.
  • Knowledge of major theories treatment procedures and research relevant to providing occupational therapy services for children (infants through 21-year-olds) who have special needs.
  • Select and administer appropriate assessment instruments and procedures taking into consideration a students age developmental level handicapping conditions and educational placement.
  • Assess the functional performance of students with special needs within the school environment.
  • Engage in consensual decision making as part of the IEP process.
  • Interpret assessment results appropriately and use results to develop occupational therapy intervention plans.
  • Plan and implement intervention strategies using direct therapy monitoring and consultation.
  • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with education personnel administrators parents and community members.
  • Explain the role of occupational therapy within the school setting to education personnel administrators parents and community members.
  • Document assessment and intervention results in the proper manner for a school setting and relate the information to the educational goals of the student.
  • Development implement evaluate and modify accordingly an occupational therapy program within a school setting.
  • Facilitate transitions among agencies programs and professionals as service provision changes (early intervention to preschool preschool to school school to work).
  • Supervise Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant.
  • Maintain and authorize documentation for Medicaid eligible students.
