A school health aide supports the school nurse by providing basic first aid administering delegated medications managing health records conducting screenings (vision/hearing) monitoring chronic conditions (like diabetes) maintaining supplies handling clerical tasks and assisting with student care (toileting feeding mediations) while ensuring confidentiality and communicating with parents and staff about student health needs. Core Responsibilities
Student Care: Administering basic first aid for minor injuries/illnesses. Dispensing prescribed medications as directed by the nurse and physician. Assisting with personal care needs (toileting feeding hygiene) for students with/without special needs. Monitoring students with chronic conditions (e.g. blood sugar checks for diabetics). Health Room Operations: Maintaining student health records logs and files (immunizations visits medications). Managing inventory and stocking health office supplies. Performing clerical duties like filing answering phones and data entry. Screenings & Monitoring: Assisting the school nurse with vision hearing and other health screenings. Monitoring immunization compliance and sending notices to parents.
Communication & Documentation: Notifying parents/guardians about student illnesses accidents or health concerns. Documenting health office visits and reporting data to the nurse and district. Maintaining confidentiality of student health information.
Emergency Response: Providing emergency care until professional help arrives if the nurse isnt present.
Key Duties
Delegated Medical Tasks: Tasks like catheterization or gastrostomy feeding only after specific training by the school nurse. Promoting Wellness: Working with staff and parents to support healthy environments and disease prevention. Clerical Support: Handling routine paperwork data entry for state reports and record keeping. Supervision & Scope
Works under the direct supervision of the building principal with district nurse support. Follows district policies state guidelines and physician instructions. |
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Numberof days and compensation based on Board approved support personnelsalary schedule and employee work calendars.
EVALUATION: Job performance evaluated annually by the principal or assistant principal lead nurse or Director of Special Services
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to routinely and continually bend squat stand walk or climbstairs.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Ability to operate computers copy machine and other office machines as needed.
