This role sits at a pivotal intersection: how the world discovers us online and what awaits them when they arrive. Youll be the person who makes sure our Hostelworld presence is unmissable and that the local partnerships we build make a Mad Monkey stay feel like a whole city has rolled out the welcome mat.

Position Overview

Were looking for a creative culturally tuned-in Social Media Manager to take ownership of our global social channels and help Mad Monkey stay at the forefront of travel content. Youll be the strategic brain and creative force behind our online voice leading content direction engaging our community and championing our brand across Instagram TikTok LinkedIn and beyond.

This isnt a one-person show. Youll work closely with a talented roster of freelance video editors regular content creators and influencers who stay with us in exchange for content. Your job is to direct elevate and coordinate bringing the Mad Monkey story to life at scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Channel Strategy & Management

  • Own and execute the global social media strategy across Instagram TikTok and LinkedIn
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice aesthetic and tone across all platforms
  • Build and manage a content calendar that balances planned campaigns reactive content and evergreen posts
  • Monitor channel performance using analytics tools and report on key metrics making data-led adjustments to strategy
  • Identify platform trends algorithm changes and new features adapting our approach accordingly

2. Global Events & Campaign Support

  • Lead social coverage for major global events such as St. Patricks Day Easter New Years Eve and other culturally relevant moments
  • Manage full event content arcs: pre-event teaser campaigns real-time coverage and post-event recap content
  • Support ticket and event pre-sales through targeted social content designed to drive awareness and conversion
  • Collaborate with the wider team on global campaign ideation were a collaborative team and love hearing everyones ideas
  • Take creative ownership of social giveaways and activation campaigns from concept to execution

3. Content Direction & Freelancer Management

  • Brief and direct our network of freelance video editors and content creators ensuring output aligns with brand standards and campaign goals
  • Review and approve content from editors providing clear constructive feedback to maintain quality
  • Manage the influencer exchange programme coordinating stays for creators in return for authentic content
  • Produce or edit content yourself when speed is essential particularly for trend-led reactive content
  • Build and maintain an organised content library and asset management system

4. Community Engagement

  • Proactively engage on Instagram and TikTok commenting on relevant travel lifestyle and hospitality content to grow brand visibility and community
  • Respond to comments DMs and mentions across all channels in a timely and on-brand manner
  • Identify and amplify user-generated content (UGC) from guests and travellers turning authentic moments into brand content
  • Foster a sense of community among Mad Monkeys online audience building genuine relationships with followers travel creators and brand advocates

5. LinkedIn & Brand Storytelling

  • Manage Mad Monkeys LinkedIn presence posting regular updates that showcase the brands culture innovation and values
  • Work with blog content produced by other team members and adapt it into compelling LinkedIn posts
  • Cover a broad range of topics suited to LinkedIns professional audience including:
  • Internal team stories and milestones
  • Technology and product updates
  • CSR initiatives and sustainability efforts
  • Property achievements renovations and community highlights

6. Trend Monitoring & Reactive Content

  • Stay ahead of the curve on emerging social trends especially on TikTok and Instagram Reels
  • Brief freelance editors quickly to capitalise on trending audio formats or cultural moments before they peak
  • Be comfortable shooting or directing quick-turn content yourself when the moment demands it
  • Keep a regular eye on competitor and peer-brand channels in the hostel travel and lifestyle space

Who You Are

  • You have a genuine passion for travel and an instinctive feel for what makes content resonate online
  • You have strong editing instincts you know a good cut a strong hook and what grabs attention in the first 3 seconds
  • Youre highly organised and able to juggle multiple campaigns creators and deadlines without dropping the ball
  • Youre a natural communicator equally comfortable giving feedback to freelancers and pitching ideas to the wider team
  • Youre proactive trends-aware and love the pace of social media fast iterative and always evolving
  • You understand the hostel and travel audience: young experience-hungry social and always looking for the next adventure
  • Youre a team player who contributes ideas freely and lifts others around you

Skills

Essential

  • Proven experience managing Instagram and TikTok channels with a measurable following and growth track record
  • Experience briefing and managing freelance creatives or content teams
  • Strong understanding of short-form video from storytelling structure to editing rhythm and trending formats
  • Comfortable using social scheduling and analytics tools
  • Excellent written communication skills you can write an engaging caption and a sharp brief equally well
  • Strong eye for visual content: photography video reels stories and graphics

Desirable

  • Hands-on video editing experience (Adobe Premiere CapCut or similar)
  • Experience working with influencers or UGC creator programmes
  • Familiarity with paid social (Meta Ads TikTok Ads) is a plus but not required
  • Previous experience in the hostel hotel or travel sector
  • Photography skills or comfort directing on-location shoots
