Speech and Language Pathologist III Clinical Research Hiring Incentive

The Speech-Language Pathologist III: Clinical Research is a clinical specialist who provides direct patient/student care for assessing and treating communication (i.e. speechlanguage literacy) cognitive/learning oral motor and feeding/swallowingdisorders. This position will provide speech-language pathology (SLP) services in accordance with departmental regulatory and their program-specific function*maintain documentation related to services offered and participate in intra- andinterdisciplinary training programs. (*e.g. school-based positions: services are implemented as detailed in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student). The incumbent will provide leadership specific to their documented area
of specialization including but not limited to clinical training activities development of evidence-based evaluation and service delivery models participation in clinical outcome activities review and interpretation of literature and dissemination of findings through formal and informal presentations.

This SLP III position will actively participate in clinical research activities.

As such either a Clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD) or PhD (or equivalent) in Speech-Language Pathology (or related area) is strongly preferred.

1. Provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and intervention programs
consistent with contemporary evidence-based practice in speech-language
pathology and departmental quality standards soliciting and incorporating the
needs interests and objectives of the patient/student (as appropriate) and
family.

2. Collaborate with the family medical and clinical providers school/educational
personnel and other clinical or educational care team members to ensure
continuum of care for the child and optimization of services. All interactions are
non-judgmental and based upon mutual respect.

3. Maintain documentation and complete case management activities consistent
with Institute and Department expectations as well as guidelines and
requirements from The Joint Commission (JC) the Commission on Accreditation
of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and/or the Maryland State Department of
Education (MSDE) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(ASHA).

4. Participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities related to
patient/student care (e.g. team conferences; student conferences school team)
and professional training (e.g. staff development activities).

5. Within specialty area administer one or more departmental and/or program
functions (e.g. program development service delivery model expansion quality
assurance activities clinical outcomes measurement training program etc.)
and coordinate with related clinical specialists to direct other staff participation
in that activity/function.

6. Research review and interpret literature related to the specialty area and
disseminate that knowledge to internal and external audiences through formal
and informal presentations and training.

7. Participate in departmental activities and outreach activities in the community
including specialty consumer and professional organizations (e.g.
presentations service on committees).

8. Demonstrate leadership and participate in systematic professional
development to improve the clinical educational research and advocacy goals
of the Department and Institute.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess and maintain full licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist
from the Maryland Board of Audiologists Hearing Aid Dispensers & SpeechLanguage Pathologists.
2. Must possess and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence in SpeechLanguage Pathology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA).
3. Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
within three months of training/date of hire.
4. For school positions: Must achieve and maintain Professional Crisis Management
(PCM) training certification at the appropriate level and according to the timeline
established within departmental policy. Opportunities for training will be provided
by the department.
5. Must have approved documented evidence of an advanced proficiency in an
area of clinical/research specialization that adds considerable value to patient
care departmental or programmatic function or to the discipline itself.

EDUCATION:
Masters degree in communication disorders/speech-language pathology
required.
Clinical Doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD) or PhD (or equivalent) in
Speech-Language Pathology (or related area) preferred for research-focused roles.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of four years licensed clinical experience (including the clinical
fellowship year) with at least three years in a focused specialty area is required.
Additional experience or coursework in clinical leadership or program/project
management is preferred.
