Job Summary

The Specialist Communications and Media works closely with faculty and staff to promote UFVs reputation and regard through storytelling and content creation that impacts visibility branding positioning media/community relations and employee relations.

The incumbent plans writes and edits print and online publications for UFV including blog posts reports brochures newspaper supplements and advertorials and the university magazine.

The incumbent works with and produces content for social media print and web publications internal communications media releases including utilizing photography and video.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in English Journalism Public Relations Communications or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related writing or journalism experience.
  • Proven ability to plan schedule and create content in a busy environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail ability to optimize resources meet deadlines and exceed project requirements.
  • Professional experience in writing editing social media measurement and evaluation.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by exercising tact diplomacy and judgement while maintaining the highest levels of customer service and professionalism.
  • Ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University as well as with external stakeholders and suppliers in the communities.
  • Excellent writing proofreading and editing skills for a variety of media types (print and electronic) with an eye for detail design content and brand.
  • Ability to work independently exercise discretion and sound judgment in dealing with confidential and/or controversial University matters.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to work under pressure meet tight deadlines and effectively collaborate and manage changing priorities.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment an asset.
  • This position may work non-traditional hours due to breaking issues emergency communications and special events.
