Job Summary
Residential Mentor for Gaston House from June 1 to July 27 2026.
This program provides undergraduates from across the country with research opportunities on Grounds. The Residential Mentor will be expected to offer guidance and support to undergraduate addition the mentor will facilitate social events for program participants.
Specific Dates & Responsibilities:
1. Pick up key cards from Gibbons House.
2. Be present during the Leadership Alliance check-in at Gaston House from 2:005:00 p.m. on Sunday May 31 to distribute key cards. Students will arrive throughout the day.
3. Participate in the welcome meeting on Monday June 1 (time TBD).
4. Hold a meeting with students to facilitate suitemate agreements discuss health and safety protocols and help residents get acquainted with one another.
5. July TBD: Pizza & Posters/Symposium
6. July TBD: Attend the Leadership Alliance Orientation (LANS) workshop to understand procedures for virtual national conferences.
7. July 27: Manage check-out (8:00am-11:00 am):
- Do a final check of students rooms noting any damage or cleaning issues.
- Alert staff of any damages ASAP. Make sure all summer researchers check out upon completion of departures. RA returns in their key card.
During the first week:
1. Provide guidance on how to navigate to locations where program events are held.
2. Communicate with the Outreach and Engagement team to coordinate payments and logistics for activities that promote a welcoming and engaging environment for summer students.
3. Coordinate campus and Charlottesville tours for students.
4. Check in individually with each student.
5. Organize a social event for students in the Corner or Downtown Charlottesville (e.g. Fridays After 5). Invite other programs and their RMs to join.
Weekly:
1. Check in with students.
2. Meet/communicate with Laura Matinez about any updates issues or concerns.
3. Communicate any emergencies or concerns to Laura Martinez.
Occasionally:
Facilitate opportunities for students to engage in informal fun activities or outings (e.g. Carters Mountain sunset concerts on Thursday evenings shooting hoops free yoga classes through the Contemplative Sciences Center hikes).
After the Program:
Provide feedback to the program on major issues any concerns related to students (including during field trips) and observations on interactions between students from different institutions and programs.
Position Compensation: $15.00 Hourly. Housing will be provided for the duration of the program along with compensation.
Ideal candidates will have experience in residential advising or student support roles.
