Position Description

AMS Head Football Coach (certified) Middle School (2026-2027 School Year)

Goal: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship while providing an educational environment which enhances the development of the whole student-athlete.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Requires a middle school endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate
  • Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated
  • Must meet all TSSAA guidelines/preparation for coaches
  • Previous Coaching experience
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position
  • Any other/additional qualifications that the Superintendent/Designee finds appropriate and acceptable

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates an educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to supervisor/administrator upon request
  • Establishes a standard of classroom behavior; maintains classroom management in and outside of the school
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on an established timetable and provides written and oral progress reports to parents/guardians administrators and selected staff; administers tests and assessments
  • Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students within state and school requirements based on the educational physical and emotional levels of student development
  • Confers with parents administrators specialists mental health staff and appropriate resource staff to develop educational programs for students
  • Creates learning materials geared to students abilities and interests
  • Instructs students by using educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development perception memory language communication skills cognition social and emotional development
  • Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities
  • Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law and district and administrative regulations
  • Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student activities and conduct
  • Sponsors student activities/clubs/teams/organization and tutor students as requested
  • Uses sound and acceptable coaching techniques in all phases of the program
  • Organizes safe and effective practice sessions
  • Develops and delegates specific job tasks for assistant(s) if in a head coaching role
  • Develops and adheres to an efficient and technically appropriate conditioning and injury prevention and treatment program
  • Develops in conjunction with the Principal/Athletic Director an efficient system for equipment accountability
  • Establishes a working rapport with and is directly responsible to the Principal/Athletic Director
  • Adheres to all district and school policies regarding the athletic program
  • Strives to build good sportsmanship among players coaches and fans
  • Models good sportsmanship and always enforces sportsmanlike behavior among the players
  • Establishes good public relations in the school and community
  • Coaches individual participants in the fundamental and advanced skills necessary to develop their full potential in the sport involved
  • Demonstrates ability to motivate the team and individual players
  • Commands respect of the players
  • Instills a positive attitude towards self team and sport on the part of individual players
  • Communicates personal and program expectations to team and to individual players
  • Develops a firm fair and consistent discipline system for the team and for individual players
  • Follows proper procedures in handling discipline problems
  • Cooperates with maintenance staff transportation staff and others who are involved in supporting the athletic program
  • Drafts and submits a budget for the sports needs for the coming year
  • Arranges for contacts with appropriate college recruiters for players
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude towards and enthusiasm for coaching assignment
  • Ensures coaching staff has completed all required trainings of the district and TSSAA
  • Maintains eligibility forms emergency data cards insurance records equipment inventory and other related records related to the sport and athletes
  • Attends clinics workshops and professional organizations as related to coaching area
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent

Supervisory Capacity: Supervises students as designated on the class roster. Also supervises students in general common areas when class is not in session. Will supervise assistant coaches and student athletes at practices and during competitions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Standard classroom environment
  • Outdoors on athletic field athletic locker room and facilities
  • Exposure to various weather conditions (heat cold rain wind) is common during practices and games
  • Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role

While performing the duties of this job the employee is

  • regularly required to talk or hear
  • required to stand; walk; run; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Regularly move about inside the classroom/school/athletic field/athletic facilities
  • Ability to demonstrate soccer techniques including kicking running sprinting and stretching
  • Must be able to run short distances and participate in light physical activity with players when needed
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds

The teacher/coach maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all the duties and responsibilities of the position. This is 10-month position.

Salary:Salary determined based on education/experience per the ACS Teacher Salary Schedule- Current salary schedule 25-26ACS Teacher Salary Schedule.
