Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Library Services the Access Services Librarian is responsible for the librarys public services and providing support of all faculty staff students and members of the Shaw University Community using library resources.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide public service at all Library Service points as directed needed or required.
- Establish and implement Circulation Desk/Access Services Procedures.
- Perform Interlibrary Loan.
- Perform maintenance of the circulation and reference collections.
- Catalog materials in WMS.
- Assist with information literacy and library instruction.
- Compile statistics related to circulation and ILL usage.
- Process and prepare items for reserve.
- Network with teaching and research faculty in assigned programs and schools to promote library programming and resource
- Contribute leadership for collection development and weeding for assigned programs and school
- Network collaborating and actively participating in local regional national or international organizations regarding information and reference service information literacy and instruction collection development and/or assigned subjects and disciplines.
- Serve on/participate in University organizations committees task forces and teams as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with faculty students staff and administrators.
- Participate as a departmental liaison for faculty and students in designated subject
- Prepare reports and make recommendations for collections as requested.
- Create LibGuides as directed.
- Assist with Library events and displays.
- Direct assigned work-study students.
- Other duties as assigned. Note: This job description is not intended to provide all duties that may be required of the position as other duties may be required of this position.
Education and/or Experience
- Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent masters degree in an information-related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment and to interact effectively with faculty staff students and colleagues.
- Strong competency in written and oral communication.
- Ability to manage projects and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated aptitude for detail-oriented work while grasping major trends and exhibiting creative thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to create effective web pages or willingness to learn.
- Exhibit a strong public service orientation a commitment to service excellence flexibility initiative and the ability to flourish in a rapidly changing environment.
- Position requires the ability to work at least one night a week and may require the ability to work on weekends as part of staff rotation
