Reports to: Lead Summer SOAR teacher

Salary range: $40

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8:30 am -12:00 pm includes 45 min of prep a day

Number of Positions: 3

The WMS Summer SOAR Program Teachers: We are seeking three teachers to support our Middle School Summer Program: one Math teacher one ELA teacher and one Specialist teacher. Each teacher will work with middle school students across rising grades 68 teaching sections with rising 6th- 7th- and 8th-grade students. Teachers will collaborate to provide engaging supportive learning experiences that reinforce key skills preview key skills needed for success in their next grade and promote student growth throughout the summer program.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach three groups of middle school students one content area with lessons that reinforce key skills and preview key skills needed for success in their next grade
  • For the Literacy Teacher:
    • Encourage a love of reading and talking about books
    • Work with students on writing in response to reading
    • Support students with reading comprehension
  • For the Math Teacher:
    • Deliver standards-aligned math instruction intervention and fluency work for middle school students
    • Use assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
  • For the Specialist Teacher:
    • Plan interactive activities that draw from PE art and/or music
    • Purposefully incorporate opportunities for students to interact with each other

Qualifications:

  • A current Massachusetts Teaching License/Certification
  • Three or more successful years of experience teaching students in literacy or math preferred
  • Experience working with upper elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy and math instruction and comfortable modeling instruction when needed
  • Holds the belief that all children can learn and learn to read and write effectively
  • Familiarity with Responsive Classroom practices language and beliefs
  • An ability to engage students in using all 4 domains: listening reading speaking and writing
  • Having students engage in academic conversations during every class
  • Attend pre-program training and weekly faculty meetings.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear operate a computer hand-held learning devices and other office equipment reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
