Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Manager Mining Project Contracts. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in either Edmonton Alberta or Calgary Alberta.

Senior contracts professional with extensive mining project experience located in Alberta supporting EPC/EPCM project delivery across all phases. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute contracting strategies establish contracting and prequalification frameworks and manage complex project contracts in alignment with customer regulatory and corporate requirements.

Strong understanding of mining market conditions local contractor capabilities Indigenous and regional considerations and miningspecific risk profiles. Proven ability to partner with engineering construction and project management teams to enable safe compliant and commercially sound project outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages end to end contracts management for mining projects including EPC and EPCM delivery models with a strong focus on Canada based execution.
  • Develops and implements project specific contracting strategies for mining scopes including earthworks civil mechanical electrical construction services and specialist mining contractors. Ensures sourcing approaches aligned with project risk schedule and cost objectives.
  • Establishes and executes contractor pre qualification programs including development of qualification criteria evaluation frameworks and approved bidder lists.
  • Provides commercial and contractual leadership through tendering negotiation award and administration of complex project contracts.
  • Identifies and manages commercial contractual and supply chain risks including Canada/Mining specific regulatory labour and market considerations.
  • Supports project leadership with commercial input to execution strategies risk assessments and change management.
  • Leads contract administration activities including change control claims support dispute resolution and contract close out.
  • Interfaces with customer and stakeholders to secure approvals and ensure alignment with contractual and governance requirements.
  • May provide functional leadership mentoring and technical guidance to contracts personnel.
  • Travel to the customer office or to the project site maybe required during the life of the project.
  • Alberta specific regulatory and contracting requirements: Mining projects are governed by provincial legislation labour laws safety standards environmental approvals and Indigenous engagement obligations that require strong local knowledge and ongoing in jurisdiction interaction.
  • Local market and contractor knowledge: Effective supply chain depends on first hand understanding of the Canada mining and construction market including contractor capacity labour availability union dynamics pricing and market cycles.
  • Project embedded role requiring real time engagement: The position operates as part of the core project delivery team requiring time zone alignment participation in live negotiations and close collaboration with engineering construction legal and client teams.
  • Contract risk change and claims management: EPC/EPCM mining contracts involve complex change management and claims mitigation that require immediate commercial judgment and direct engagement with site and construction stakeholders.
  • Indigenous and regional stakeholder considerations: Many projects include Indigenous participation and local content commitments that require culturally appropriate locally informed procurement and contracting strategies.
  • Governance accountability and client confidence: Given the commercial exposure and decision authority associated with the role clients and internal governance expect accountability to reside within the same jurisdiction as the project.
  • Appropriate use of offshore resources: Offshore locations (e.g. India or Bogotá) are better suited to transactional analytical or support activities whereas this role requires senior project embedded commercial leadership.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:

  • 15 years of procurement and contracts experience with demonstrated mining project experience preferably within Canada.
  • Strong experience supporting large EPC and/or EPCM mining projects from early project phases through execution and closeout.
  • Proven ability to develop implement and execute procurement and contracting strategies tailored to project risk and market conditions.
  • Handson experience with contractor prequalification tender evaluation commercial negotiations and contract award recommendations.
  • Solid understanding of Canada contracting practices construction market dynamics and regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated capability in project contracts management including change management claims mitigation and commercial governance.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients project leadership and contractors.
  • Leadership experience in multidisciplinary and multilocation project teams.

Education Qualifications Accreditation Training:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Supply Chain Engineering or related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
