Software Development Manager, Alexa Endpoints Media

The Alexa Endpoints Media Team delivers a multi-device media experience across all Alexa-enabled endpoints. We build the player that handles music podcast and audiobook playback for Alexa devices whether its a single device in the living room a dozen devices spread throughout the house playing in sync or a dynamic Home Theater of Echo Studios. Key job responsibilities
You will set goals define develop and realize the roadmap identify resource requirements and hire against it develop the careers of engineers deliver high-quality software that exceeds customer expectations write docs to communicate vision project status and operational reviews and maintaining operational excellence of the system you own.


A day in the life
As a member of the leadership team you will serve as the technical leader for service development and operations. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Alexa Devices and Alexa Cloud teams to define roadmaps plan requirements make prioritization trade-offs and track dependencies. You will partner with principal engineers to brainstorm solutions solve problems and scale services. Your day also includes leading sprint planning and daily scrums reviewing operational and ticket dashboards to prioritize customer issue resolutions coaching and mentoring team members participating in hiring and authoring documents to communicate vision and project updates.

About the team
Within the Alexa Endpoints Media Team the Device Group Management team is specifically responsible for building software that delivers low-latency low-cost highly reliable and highly scalable cloud services. These services interact with our Alexa devices to power seamless multi-device experiences for customers across their homes.

- 7 years of engineering experience
- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
