Title: Director of Student Services (Special Education) and 504 Coordinator
Reports to: Superintendent
Terms of Employment: 210 day contract.
Evaluation: Reports to and evaluated by the Superintendent of Schools
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold or be eligible for South Dakota Department of Education certification as a Special Education Director or Educational Administrator
- Masters Degree in Educational Administration Special Education or related field required
- Must hold or be eligible to receive a Special Education Director endorsement through the South Dakota Department of Education
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in special education or a related field
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
he Director of Student Services is responsible for the leadership coordination and implementation of the districts special education programs and related services for students Birth through age 21. The Director ensures compliance with all district state and federal laws related to special education. The Director of Student Services also serves as the Section 504 Coordinator and works collaboratively with building administrators to ensure compliance with student 504 Plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and oversight for student services programs Birth21 with fiscal efficiency
- Ensure that the districts mission vision and goals are reflected in special education programming and services
- Ensure compliance with IDEA (Part C and Part B) Section 504 and state regulations
- Maintain current knowledge of special education law regulations and best practices including case law and instructional methods
- Coordinate evaluation eligibility and service delivery processes including IFSPs and IEPs
- Supervise and evaluate certified staff and classified employees
- Provide staff training and professional development related to student services
- Evaluate curriculum instructional methods and programs to ensure effectiveness efficiency and legal compliance
- Support building administrators in program implementation and compliance
- Communicate information regarding programs services and regulations to staff families and the Lennox School Board
- Coordinate contracted services and out-of-district placements
- Assist with recruitment hiring induction and retention of staff
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
