AECOM is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Traction Power Project Engineer to join our dedicated team in Philadelphia PA. This position will be directly involved with the design and analysis of DC or AC traction power systems for railways light rail transit (LRT) or other electrified transportation networks.
Responsibilities:
- Assist senior engineers in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems including substations overhead catenary systems (OCS) and third rail systems.
- Support the development of electrical schematics wiring diagrams and equipment layouts using CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD MicroStation).
- Perform calculations related to voltage drop current flow and power system performance.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports specifications and construction documents.
- Conduct field inspections and site visits to gather data and observe construction activities.
- Assist in the testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.
- Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g. NESC IEEE).
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering Systems Engineering or a related field and 4 years relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Experience with electrical power systems circuit analysis and electrical theory.
- Experience with AC and DC power concepts.
- Experience with power system analysis software (e.g. ETAP SKM Power Tools).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire.
- Ability and willingness to obtain AECOM Project Manager (PM) certification within two (2) years of hire.
- Valid US Drivers License required to visit project sites clients and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6 years work experience in performing Traction Power projects
- Strong interest in railway or transit systems
- Knowledge of Traction Power Load Flow Simulation Softwares( e.g Train ETRAX Openpowernet)
- Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus on Power Systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
- Desire to work in a fast paced dynamic work environment
