The New Albany ï½ Plain Local School District is seeking a dynamic Principal who will work collaboratively with the Superintendent administrative team faculty staff students parents and community to support the districts Statement of Purpose: To create a culture of accountability that achieves the best academic and developmental outcomes for each student.
The New Albany-Plain Local School district is located 20 miles northeast of downtown Columbus in the City of New Albany. The school district serves approximately a diverse population of 5100 students pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade and covers an area of 23 square miles. New Albany Primary School has a student population of approximately 1000 students in grades 1-3.
The Principal will demonstrate skill expertise and leadership across the Ohio Standards for School Principals: 1) Continuous Improvement; 2) Instruction; 3) School Operations Resources and Learning Environment; 4) Collaboration; and 5) Parents and Community Engagement.
Overview:
The Principal will demonstrate the skill expertise and leadership needed to sustain organize advance and administer a quality academic program that provides students the opportunity to grow academically and emotionally in a positive atmosphere that fosters leadership service and global competence. The Principal reports to the Director of Elementary Education and is responsible for daily administrative curricular and co-curricular functions necessary to meet daily needs at the assigned school. The Principal will serve as an active member of the leadership team for the school and district alike.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
- Ensure the effective and consistent implementation of Ohios state standards.
- Support teachers in differentiating curriculum and instructional implementation.
- Conduct extensive data analysis and benchmarking and lead the use of data to guide the growth and development of student learning.
- Integrate best practices and research into the continuous learning of the school to accelerate improvement to enhance student learning.
- Facilitate collaboration and a culture of embedded professional learning among educators working with teacher leaders and building professional learning teams in the building and district wide as an active collaborative member of the District Leadership Team.
- Develop and assess performance on building and district goals and design short and long term academic curricular and instructional plans for improvement in coordination with the Director of Elementary Education.
Cultural and Community Leadership
- Identify and strategically plan for social/emotional learning and the mental health needs of the student body with building and district staff.
- Build open positive and collaborative relationships across a variety of community stakeholder groups and work with the district leadership to build strategic partnerships with businesses and universities.
- Develop a culture which fosters an inclusive campus and a sense of belonging among students staff and families.
Human Resource/Organizational Leadership
- Implement the states teacher evaluation system (OTES) which includes high quality student data as a measure of performance and provide feedback growth and development for staff.
- Attract select develop and retain highly effective teachersand classified staff from diverse backgrounds while maintaining strong retentionrates based on the needs of the school and achieving the districts statement of purpose.
- Create ongoing two-way communication with and between staff and stakeholders including ensuring communication that builds a strong sense of community fosters mutual understanding and solicits feedback from others.
Strategic Leadership
- Ensure effective collection and analysis of student performance data to prioritize areas for growth and development and to craft strategic plans for improvement.
- Collaboratively engage the students staff and families to implement the district continuous improvement plan including fostering leadership of staff and students to create a culture of accountability that achieves the best academic and developmental outcomes for each student.
- Supervise and develop the buildings human resources to ensure the educational and other programs of the building will be most effectively implemented.
- Assess staffing needs in cooperation with the Director of Elementary Education Assistant Superintendents and Superintendent and recruit interview and make recommendations concerning employment of staff.
- Assign staff within the building to particular teaching or support positions in cooperation with the Director of Elementary Education and the Assistant Superintendents.
- Supervise and direct the evaluation of employees assigned to the building.
- Administer provisions of negotiated employee contracts relative to certificated and classified staff in the building.
- Issue/revise a staff handbook annually articulating guidelines and procedures.
- Support and supervise substitute teachers.
- Maintain and improve the quality of the instructional program and school climate by being responsible for teacher implementation of the curriculum supervision of instruction and assisting in the development of the instructional program for the district.
- Provide leadership in establishing and implementing educational goals and objectives for the school and in evaluating the attainment of those goals and objectives.
- Direct the planning of building level staff development activities and inservice day programs.
- Participate in district curriculum revision and textbook selection efforts as requested.
- Plan and operationalize an organizational framework to bring together the schools staff students facilities and programs in an effective instructional program.
- Develop and coordinate services that will foster the wellï½ being of students and provide for their individual needs.
- Establish and direct behavior management systems that are consistent with Board of Education policies and state and federal laws.
- Provide orientation for students new to the building.
- Compile secure and use student records in compliance with legal constraints and district policies.
- Direct and recommend changes in the building co-curricular program.
- Act as a facilitator for conflict resolution between students staff and parents.
- Cooperate with other district administrators and staff in supporting programs such as school counseling and special education services which provide for the safety as well as the emotional and physical well-being of students and provide enhanced educational opportunities.
- Create foster and maintain effective two-way communication between the community staff students Superintendent and the Board.
- Organize and meet with the PTO and other such advisory groups.
- Direct the release of information about the school through newsletters meetings newspapers parent groups and other appropriate communication techniques.
- Present or supervise the presentation of reports to the Board of Education as directed by the Superintendent.
- Develop relationships with individuals and community groups which foster support for school goals objectives and programs.
- Supervise the operation of the building equipment cafeteria and business procedures in ways that enhance the overall program.
- Assist in providing appropriate maintenance and custodial services; supervise maintenance and custodial services and recommend long- and short-term permanent improvement projects.
- Coordinate the use of the building by school and non-school groups.
- Oversee preparation and implementation of the building budget.
- Prepare and submit federal state and local reports.
- Develop and maintain professional and interpersonal skills and knowledge needed to provide effective leadership as a building principal.
- Participate in local state and national professional organizations.
- Visit programs in other districts and attend educational conferences.
- Read current professional literature.
- Actively engage in district-based professional development and leadership team activities.
- Implements policies and administrative guidelines to ensure compliance and successful operations.
- Recognize that unique situations will arise necessitating administrative intervention or action so ordered by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Key Qualifications:
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:
- A Masters Degree or higher in Education.
- Valid Ohio Administrator License or evidence that such is obtainable.
- Valid OTES evaluator credential or evidence that such is obtainable.
- 5 years of leadership experience (3 years as the Principal preferred).

TERMS COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The successful candidate will be offered a two-year two-hundred sixty-day administrative contract excluding annual vacation and personal leave. Salary placement commensurate with proven experience and skills based upon job qualifications and performance responsibilities outlined herein.
