Location: Rochester NY
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule
- Mid Shift Options:
- 1:00 PM 11:30 PM (4 shifts/week) OR
- 3:00 PM 11:30 PM (5 shifts/week)
- On-Call Requirement:
- 4 call shifts/month (2 weekends 2 weekdays)
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) PACU is responsible for providing post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patients in Phase I and Phase II recovery ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia and delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care setting.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide care for patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery
- Monitor vital signs and patient status post-anesthesia
- Assess and manage pain airway and recovery progression
Clinical Skills
- Perform IV insertion and phlebotomy (mandatory competencies)
- Manage post-operative patients across multiple specialties
- Respond to changes in patient condition and emergencies
Procedures & Specialties
- Endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures
- General surgery
- Orthopedic spine and total joint procedures
Collaboration
- Work closely with surgical teams anesthesiologists and other healthcare staff
- Communicate effectively with patients and families
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records using EMR systems
- Follow hospital protocols and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 1 year of PACU or relevant acute care experience
- Mandatory skills: IV placement and phlebotomy
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
