Construction Inspector

Engage Engineering is a boutique consulting engineering firm based in Peterborough that provides municipal engineering services to our public and private sector clients. We are a team of creative talented engineers and designers working collaboratively with our clients and agencies to design resilient communities.

Engage is currently looking for a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services team for a fixed this role youll monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with contract drawings specifications standards and regulatory requirements. This position requires 40 hours per week during the peak construction season (April 15 - November 15).

Responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor Contractor operations for a variety of disciplines on-site.
• Schedule and conduct site visits on various projects.
• Read interpret and apply all contract drawings tender documents and applicable
  Ontario Provincial Standards to site operations.
• Review calculate and monitor progress payments and provide input on operations
  for change orders.
• Liaise between clients contractors and municipal officials on-site.
• Prepare and submit Daily Inspector Diaries to the Construction Services Manager
  including payment certificates on a weekly basis.
• Provide all Health and Safety Concerns in the daily inspector diary as well as
  notifying the contractor and Construction Services Manager immediately.
• Mentor co-op/students conducting inspections
• Maintains accurate and up to date timesheets and expense logs
• Perform and schedule materials testing as required
• Provide Quality Control checks during the internal design process
• Mentor junior staff in construction related skills using your project experience
• Maintain active involvement in projects to achieve a utilization rate of
  approximately 85% billable time
• Assists in the writing of tenders and completes construction cost estimates.

Capabilities and Credentials

• Graduate of Civil Engineering Technology or Technician program with a minimum
  5 years of experience in construction would be considered an asset
• Excellent time management skills
• Valid drivers license with a reliable vehicle to travel within 1 hour of Peterborough
• Experience leading and mentoring technical staff
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specification as well as
  familiarity with the construction tender process.
• A working knowledge of road and infrastructure construction with particular emphasis on
  contractor operations documentation and applying specifications to contract
  drawings.
• Highly motivated hardworking and an enthusiastic team player
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
