We are looking for a talented labour and employment lawyer to join our legal team to provide legal support to various Amazon businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
You will be the primary point of contact based in Sydney Australia for Amazons HR team and provide day-to-day employment legal advice on varied matters. As you will be operating in a dynamic environment you will have a pragmatic approach exercise sound judgment and be able to prioritise competing demands.
Key job responsibilities
The role involves a mix of employment advisory work and litigation. Key job responsibilities include:
Advising on strategic industrial relations matters
Handling and resolving worker related claims or proceedings including pre-litigation disputes and claims
Drafting and implementing employment policies to address both Amazon requirements and country specific requirements
Advising on labour compliance issues in relation to employees and other workers
Conducting training and keeping management/HR informed of recent developments and effective risk management strategies
Advising on performance management processes investigations and disciplinary action
Implementing process improvements that help the business and HR scale
Working cross functionally with other teams on projects including at an APAC regional and global level.
You will be able to develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure legal alignment with business objectives. You will be expected to work independently while also collaborating effectively with teams outside legal such as Employee Relations and Public Policy. You must be inquisitive and interested in solving novel issues.
- Law degree and admitted to practice in Australia
- Minimum 3 years post admission experience as an employment lawyer
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Some experience in dealing with claims in employment tribunals
- Prior experience in a corporate law firm and some in-house experience preferred.
