Position Summary:
The Tool-Maker/Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining various machine tools to produce precision parts tooling and molds. This role requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail as well as the ability to read blueprints use precision measuring instruments and apply advanced machining techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machining Operations: Operate and maintain manual tooling machines CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines is a plus such as lathes milling machines grinders and drill presses.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings blueprints and technical specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
- Precision Measurement: Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers calipers and gauges to ensure parts meet exact specifications and tolerances.
- Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of machined Tooling and Molds to identify defects and ensure adherence to quality standards. Perform adjustments to machinery and tooling as needed to maintain product quality.
- Programming: Write and edit CNC programs to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency. Solid Works Gibbs Cam and Auto-Cad is a plus
- Tooling Setup: Select appropriate cutting tools fixtures and materials for machining operations. Set up machines and adjust controls to regulate machining factors such as speed feed coolant flow and depth of cut.
- Materials: Steel H-13 P-20 S-7 etc.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the workspace is clean and organized.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes reduce waste and increase productivity.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program or technical school training preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines. Strong understanding of machining principles tooling and materials.
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with CNC programming software and CAD/CAM software is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks with precision.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with team members and supervisors.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Manufacturing floor with exposure to loud noise moving machinery and materials.
- Hours: Full-time position with overtime. Shop is opened 5:00am to 6:00pm. Set Schedule within those hours are negotiable.
