ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and coordinate new die and tooling builds ensuring precision and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with tool design to create Bill of Material (BOM) for new builds.
  • Identify press tooling that is obsolete or at the end of its lifecycle and plan for replacements.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose in-press stamping problems effectively.
  • Identify and implement design improvements for existing dies.
  • Direct work assignments and participate in performance reviews of team members.
  • Support die setters in setup and new tooling tryouts.
  • Mentor and train toolmakers and apprentices in trade standards and best practices.
  • Operate tool room equipment as needed for new tooling and repair items.
  • Reverse-engineer detailed components without part prints.
  • Perform tool and die repair tasks ensuring functionality and safety.
  • Stay updated on heat treatment processes tool steel selection and basic metallurgy.
  • Read and interpret design blueprints accurately.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and resolve quality issues proactively.
  • Comply with all operating procedures instructions and safety rules.
  • Communicate effectively and serve as the subject matter expert for tooling and die issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Tool and Die Apprenticeship 2-year Associates Degree or 10 years of experience in toolmaking die repair or a combination of schooling and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of progressive and single-hit dies.
  • Familiarity with tool room process flow and project deadlines.
  • Ability to reverse-engineer detailed components without part prints.
  • Proficiency in heat treatment processes tool steel selection and basic metallurgy.
  • Ability to read and interpret design blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and expertise in in-press troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
  • Willingness to work after-hours if required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This role involves repetitive movement tasks including standing walking stooping bending reaching grasping pushing and pulling grating material of various sizes and weights for extended periods. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques help from another employee or lifting equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes working on the production floor and requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The role involves exposure to noise dust heat and cold regularly. Care and attention to safety rules and standards are essential due to exposure to machine and tool hazards.
