Health Sciences Campus

Augusta Universitys College of Allied Health Sciences is located on the universitys Health Sciences Campus in Augustas medical district home to the states only public academic medical center and one of approximately 120 academic medical centers nationwide. This vibrant interdisciplinary environment supports collaboration across health professions education research and clinical care.

The Health Sciences Campus houses six of Augusta Universitys eleven colleges and schools creating a dynamic academic health sciences community dedicated to advancing health care discovery and workforce development across Georgia and beyond.

The campus includes:

  • The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) one of the nations largest and oldest medical schools and the only public medical school in Georgia. Anchored in Augusta with regional campuses throughout the state MCG includes nearly 900 full- and part-time faculty who are deeply engaged in patient care medical education research and community outreach.
  • The College of Nursing the largest nursing program in Georgia prepares nurse leaders through innovative education impactful research clinical practice and community engagement aimed at improving the health and well-being of individuals families and communities across the state.
  • The College of Allied Health Sciences which educates therapists technicians administrators managers and other health professionals who form a critical component of the states health care workforce.
  • The College of Science and Mathematics which provides foundational training in the sciences and prepares students for careers in health professions research and scientific discovery.
  • The Graduate Schoolwhich supports advanced scholarship and interdisciplinary graduate education preparing leaders researchers educators and clinicians who advance knowledge and improve communities.
  • The Dental College of Georgia the states only dental school which prepares future oral health professionals through hands-on clinical education research and community service.

Augusta Universitys Health Sciences Campus is further strengthened by its partnership with Wellstar Health System which established Wellstar MCG Health. Located adjacent to campus Wellstar MCG Health includes the former Augusta University Medical Center and the Childrens Hospital of Georgia. These facilities serve as primary clinical training sites for students and residents while also supporting cutting-edge clinical research and providing comprehensive care to patients across the region.

The College of Allied Health Sciences

As one of Augusta Universitys eleven colleges the College of Allied Health Sciences trains and educates todays health care professionals: therapists technicians administrators managers and assistants who are the backbone of our countrys health care workforce. We stay on the leading edge of national trends and advances in science technology and just the last decade we have expanded our graduate programs nearly 250 percent bolstered our clinical mission and multiplied our research initiatives threefold. Our students engage in clinical opportunities across Georgia and the nation. We were an early proponent of interdisciplinary and distance education and we continue to lead the way with our innovative programs.

The Dean

The Dean will be the chief executive of the College and will lead the College in the development and support of strong educational research and clinical programs as well as faculty practice engagement appropriate to the Colleges mission. The Dean will also be responsible for implementing University and College policies overseeing all support services for the College and addressing the needs of students faculty and staff. The Dean will foster the establishment of strategic goals of the College coordinating the departments to achieve the Colleges mission in alignment with the initiatives to continue to advance research patient care and academic programs.

In addition the Dean will be a strong advocate for the College and will provide the vision and leadership to represent the College effectively in a complex health sciences and comprehensive university environment. The Dean will have budgetary authority and will be instrumental in recruiting outstanding faculty students and staff. The Dean reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring a record of distinguished academic leadership research/scholarship service and teaching. The successful candidate must hold an earned doctoral degree or terminal degree in a related discipline. Must possess relevant academic administrative experience and demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure at the time of hire.

Appointment at the rank of Professor requires a senior-level faculty record typically including ten or more years of experience in a related field with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or with comparable training background and experience.
