Advisory Group: The Office of the Gender Advisor supports the Director General International as commander of the IMS by providing advice on gender and human security to the Divisions in their policy development activity. The Offices of Gender Advisor (GENAD works directly for the particular:

The GENAD office advises the international military staff on gender and human securityrelated considerations of all policies under development. The work is varied and cross-cutting from the disproportionate impact on women of climate change to the gendered impact of human trafficking. The office runs regular events to build awareness on gender as well as networking within NATO to ensure messages are disseminated within all Divisions in NATO IMS. The office is a small but dynamic team which allows for collaboration and valued input from all team members.

The intern will support the Office in addressing strategic operational and tactical issues relevant to gender in military operations the organization of events conferences meetings and seminars including the drafting of meeting minutes reports and agendas; analyze and compile comparative statistics on the gender perspective within NATOs Member and Partner Nations armed forces using data analysis software; provide administrative organizational and coordinative support to the Offices daily work strands; and perform other duties as assigned by the Head GENAD as required.

How the daily work will look like

Interns will gain a comprehensive understanding of NATOs structure working procedures and applicable legal framework. They will be able to attend meetings of the Military Committee and of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) as well as working level meetings. Additionally they will have an opportunity to participate in dialogues with international organizations national delegations and other stakeholders participating in conferences as required. They will have an opportunity to enhance their research and writing skills.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

The candidate must:

1. be a national of a NATO member state

2. be at least 21 years old

3. have at least two years of university level studies OR equivalent education OR be currently a student OR a recent graduate (degree obtained no longer than 12 months ago)

4. have proficiency in one of the two official NATO languages (English/French).

Desirable:

The following criteria will be considered an advantage:

1. have a Bachelors degree or in the final stage of a Masters degree relevant to the requested area of expertise

2. elementary knowledge of the second official NATO language (English/French)

3. be an advance user of IT tools including Microsoft Office SharePoint;

4. previous experience with other international organizations national administration research or industry.
