The office of MP Connie Cody is hiring a full-time Parliamentary Assistant for the Ottawa office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Member in preparation for Question Period and committee work by providing relevant research briefing notes and strategic talking points.
- Conduct in-depth research on legislation policy proposals and committee-related topics to support the Members legislative priorities.
- Draft and edit high-quality written materials including speeches press releases briefings householders mailers and official correspondence.
- Reviews news media and prepares background information to ensure that the Member and staff are continually kept abreast of emerging and evolving issues and of areas of possible interest or concern.
- Researches analyzes and identifies information for the preparation of speeches presentations briefings press releases and correspondence.
- Assists with media inquiries by researching information and extrapolating factual and accurate data.
- Support day-to-day office operations including data entry managing constituent correspondence and creating outreach materials such as newsletters mailers and other communications.
- Provides various administrative and/or business services to the Member and staff to ensure the continued flow of operations and to help the constituency office achieve its goals and priorities.
- Other duties as required.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications :
Education :
- Post-secondary degree or a combination of education and relevant experiences.
Experiences :
- Experience in the political field at the federal level (Hill Campaign or Constituency Office).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Experience in research speech writing and the analysis of policies and procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft tools in particular Word Excel and Outlook.
Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with the House of Commons its operations and parliamentary procedures.
- French is an asset.
