Job Summary

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Career and Technical Education: Criminal Justice Law Enforcement/Emergency Response 11-12 Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Working under the direction of the Principal of Dorchester Career & Technology Center and Supervisor of Career and Technical Education this position assists in the delivery of the Criminal Justice program at Dorchester Career & Technology Center by providing the strategies resources and instruction that will increase student proficiency on local and industry recognized assessments.

DUTIES:

The teacher is responsible for creating a supporting educational atmosphere that empowers students to reach their full potential in intellectual and skill development. This teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in a hands-on contextual learning environment while also developing workplace skills in the trade area. Primary responsibilities are:

  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identifie select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying learning styles ethics social and economic backgrounds and special needs.
  • Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Team teaches with instructional team members.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures to grant credit by demonstrated proficiency.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students parents and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment to maximize the outcomes for each student.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students parents peers and the community.
  • Model workplace maturity by leading students development toward positive workplace skills and attitudes.
  • Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group subject area and/or program.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students parents and partner schools.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance and job placement.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Meet professional obligations and in-services through efficient work habits including but not limited to meeting deadlines honoring schedules developing lessons and delivering instruction with co-teaching partners.
  • Establish an active partnership with a trade-related Program Advisory Council (PAC) to stay abreast of current and improved techniques trends and products for curriculum updates.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Bachelors degree in Government/Political Science Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
  • Be eligible for a Maryland State Department of Education Professional teaching license in Professional and Technical Education Social Studies or Government/Political Science within two (2) or four (4) years depending on necessary credits.
  • Able to operate equipment/tools as needed in the instruction of the program.
  • Knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum techniques for integrating curriculum Dorchester County Public Schools policies and effective instructional practice.
  • Able to work effectively with administrators colleagues staff students parents and the community.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
