HFH MSU Senior Financial Analyst

Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Director of Finance for Henry Ford MSU provides financial analysis for Henry Ford MSU supporting executive and operational leaders. Provides support on financial related activities including but not limited to financial reporting service line profitability financial analysis business plans and other financial information to support operations in the identification. Using financial tools reviews trends and performs proactive analysis for business units or product lines. Provides support for financial objectives and alignment with Henry Ford MSU system operational and strategic goals and expectations. The position reports to the Henry Ford MSU Director of Finance.

The primary office location is Henry Ford Health Detroit but may require occasional travel between Henry Ford locations and to Michigan State University East Lansing which will be considered the work location for that day and is not reimbursable mileage. This position can perform duties in a hybrid work setting with a blend of in-office and remote work schedule as determined by the supervisor.

Job Duties

  • Monitors financial systems to ensure data integrity; investigates significant or unusual variances; reports and explains budget variances; identifies financial planning risks; and proactively recommends process improvements operational efficiencies and alternatives to achieve financial goals while supporting consolidated reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides analytical and financial support to HFMSU projects by reviewing reporting trends performing proactive analysis and collaborating with decision support contracting supply chain and operations.
  • Maintains routine communications regarding financials for business plans ROI and ad hoc projects with senior executives operational leadership assigned business units.
  • Manages partnership financials at MSU and Henry Ford Health by overseeing revenue and expense reporting monitoring expenditures preparing budgets financial statements forecasts and reports analyzing financial issues and collaborating with MSU and Henry Ford Health units departments and colleges to support effective partnerships.
  • Manages and completes special projects and participates in assigned committee meetings.
  • Ensures fiduciary responsibility for financial controls and compliance with all audit requirements.
  • Assists the Director of Finance with implementation of financial components for the Health Sciences Center collaboration between MSU and Henry Ford Health.

Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial activities using both Henry Ford Health and MSU systems.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting Finance or field related to employing unit; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial or accounting practices developing research projects funding and grant practices and/or experience in a field related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Accounting Finance or related field preferred.
  • Previous healthcare or higher education finance experience preferred.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
