JobGoal(s): To provide medically and educationally necessary counseling services for students for whom these services are determined necessary and to provide supervision and support to adults working with these students.

Qualifications

  • Clinicians must have an active Clinical License (LCSW LMSW--cc LCPC LCPC--C) from the ME Board of Licensure and no active violations or restrictions on their license. Clinicians shall have knowledge of and comply with local state and federal mandates related to their practice including notifying employers and school administrators of ethical responsibilities of clinically licensed professionals.
  • Successful completion of the districts designated behavioral intervention training program.
  • Clinicians are expected to behave ethically and professionally using a professional ethical decision--making model when necessary. A working understanding of diverse populations the various needs of myriad students families parents and communities being served in a school-based setting is the event of conflicts among competing expectations RSU 9 clinicians are directed to their Professional Code of Ethics as a tool for their decision-making.
  • Clinicians must actively help the school meet the expectations of federal state and local mental health treatment mandates. Clinical practice in RSU 9 must be consistent with these mandates to promote academic and the clinical mission of the day treatment program.
  • Clinicians must be able to collaborate well with others. The position also requires emotional resilience and stability since the work may involve dealing with crises.
  • Clinicians shall maintain the highest level of student and familial confidentiality at all times.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Planning. Clinicians will complete comprehensive assessments within 30 days of admission. An individual treatment plan is created by the clinician and family during the first 30 days of the students enrollment in the program. The information for the individual treatment plan is derived from the admission paperwork comprehensive assessment IEP minutes and goals evaluations historical information and parent and student interviews. The ITP is reviewed by the team at least every 90 days or sooner upon request of parent or guardian.
  • Intervention. Clinicians will provide evidence based individual and/or group therapy services that meet the needs of students attending the RSU 9 Day Treatment Program. These may be delivered in collaboration with other school staff as appropriate. Group therapy will often include social skills instruction. Additional group therapy may be implemented as clinically indicated. Clinicians are responsible for working towards meeting the IEP goals and delivering service requirements for all students on their caseload. They will deliver services in the context of Positive Behavior Supports including school--wide PBIS individual behavioral plans and therapeutic crisis intervention. This system emphasizes the importance of utilizing preventative systems verbal de-escalation strategies forming positive relationships with the students recognizing where the student is in the conflict cycle and understanding the students emotional status. Clinicians develop individual behavior plans with crisis plans (as appropriate) with input from classroom-based staff.
    • Clinicians provide crisis evaluations and mental status evaluations for students in acute mental health crisis. They also provide support for students through acute intervention and de-escalation strategies coordinate family consultation assess the need for emergency services transition planning and coordination with outside professionals.
  • Documentation. Clinicians are responsible for maintaining timely and accurate documentation in a manner that is consistent with Maine Care billing practices utilizing the districts designated electronic health record. Social work service contacts and service utilization will be documented by the students clinician and reported at IEP meetings. The social worker will track progress on social work goals on a trimester or quarterly basis as well as a summary report at annual IEP meetings.
  • Program Support. Clinicians will be a regular and visual presence within the classroom milieu a clinical lead and an active member of the school based team providing supportive services as needed including but not limited to monitoring and supervision of students communication with team members (e.g. school staff parents/guardians) collaboration and contribution to the development of program procedures with the support of the Clinical Consultant.
  • Supervision. Clinicians will maintain and document supervision for all Behavior Health Professionals at a minimum rate of 4 hours monthly. Supervision may be provided individually or in a group. Ongoing clinical supervision occurs daily within the context of the milieu.

Education

  • A Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) or Clinical Counseling from an accredited program with a minimum of two years of supervised clinical experience preferred.

  • School Year Only - 180 Days
  • Middle School Hours 7:30am - 2:12pm
Travel Requirements
  • Travel between district buildingsmay be requiredat times.

Reports To: Clinicians are directly supervised by the Special Education Director & building Principal and are clinically supported by the Clinical Coordinator.

Terms of Employment:As determined by the Professional Collective Bargaining Unit.

Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated annually per the provision of the Boards Policy on Evaluation of ProfessionalPersonnel.
