The Business Solutions Group partners with departments across the City to improve processes modernize data practices and support better decision-making.
The City is seeking a Summer Intern to assist with foundational data and records work that supports ongoing modernization efforts. This position will focus primarily on inventorying existing hard copy records to help determine appropriate next steps including digitization retention or disposal in alignment with City County and State policies.
This role is well-suited for someone who is detail-oriented reliable and interested in gaining exposure to how data supports city operations. While there will be opportunities to learn about data analysis and local government much of the work will involve hands-on document review and organization including time spent in the office and at an off-site location.
Examples of Duties
- Conduct inventory of physical documents and records across departments
- Organize and categorize records to support digitization and retention decisions
- Assist in identifying documents for scanning retention or disposal based on guidance
- Support basic data entry and tracking of inventory progress
- Maintain organized logs and documentation of work completed
- Assist with low-level data analysis tasks as needed
- Gain exposure to how data is used to support operational and strategic decisions across the City
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program preferably in data analytics public administration information management business or a related field;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on repetitive tasks;
- Comfortable working with physical documents and performing organizational work;
- Ability to follow established processes and handle sensitive information appropriately;
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office products especially Excel;
- Effective communication and organizational skills;
- Interest in local government operations or data-related work is a plus but not required;
- Ability to work both on-site (various City of Fishers IN buildings/locations) and at an off-site location as needed;
- Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle which includes at least 3 years of driving experience;
- Work hours are typically Monday through Friday during standard business hours with some flexibility based on workload.
