The Campus Compensation team has an outstanding opportunity for a Compensation Specialist to join their team.

UWHR Compensation is a functional unit within UWHR that provides compensation and classification expertise to departments of the UW and to UW Medicine. The Compensation team serves as a strategic partner in advancing the universitys ability to attract and retain top talent. The team ensures compliance with federal state and local laws regulations and policies while aligning compensation practices with institutional values.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Compensation the Compensation Specialist has responsibility for reviewing and evaluating classified professional and represented civil service exempt staff positions to ensure alignment and compliance with applicable classification and compensation standards. This position will exercise discretion and independent judgment in effecting executing and discharging various aspects of the compensation and classification function. Primarily focused on providing professional level support the Compensation Specialist will provide initial review and conduct preliminary research to expedite position and compensation reviews for Compensation Consultants. Additionally this position will be independently responsible for routine classification reviews and compensation related actions for classified represented civil service exempt and/or temporary professional staff positions.

Key Responsibilities

Compensation & Classification Review Support (75%)

  • Review Create Position Create Requisition Edit Position Restrictions and other compensation and classification requests in Workday for completeness. Research and proactively resolve errors seek out missing information identify positions that may need to go through Labor Relations review and facilitate the review process in coordination with Compensation Consultants.
  • Perform intake of all position review requests received for the Campus Compensation team. Review for completeness seek out missing information research and proactively resolve errors and send required notifications. Accurately enter information into review tracking database and distribute reviews to Compensation Consultants in a timely manner.
  • Receive completed position review requests finalize database entry as needed and file review packets per retention guidelines.
  • May evaluate and approve or deny routine classification and compensation requests including professional staff temporary appointment extensions classified staff pay increases and/or classified staff position reviews.

Data Maintenance and Program Support (20%)

  • Participate in compensation plan maintenance including calculating and updating pay tables for all classified staff at the UW.
  • Responsible for bi-monthly audits to maintain compensation data compliance in Workday. Review research and proactively resolve data errors in partnership with clients and UWHR partners.
  • Partner with UWHR teams on communications and website maintenance.

Miscellaneous (5%)

  • Participate in compensation- and classification-related training to further enhance understanding of UW policy federal and state regulations and to foster creative ideas of administering programs that assist in the recruitment retention and development of staff that meet unit objectives.
  • As a member of the Compensation team interact provide suggestions and implement changes to work processes. Assist in the development of plans and the implementation of enhancements to the compensation and classification system.
  • Provide general office support including scanning filing Microsoft Teams and shared drive maintenance scheduling meetings taking meeting notes etc.
  • May participate in compensation surveys as well as occasional ad hoc surveys.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Public Administration or related field and 2 years of administrative experience including 1 year of progressively responsible work in Human Resources.

Additional Qualifications

Must demonstrate excellent writing and oral communications skills customer service skills and an ability to work within complex organizational structures while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word Excel Access and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to be proactive with a can do attitude about finding solutions to customer issues.
  • Ability to change and adapt to rapidly evolving office procedures and administrative systems.
  • Experience using Workday.

Working Conditions

Hybrid at least 2 days in-office per week open office environment.

Compensation Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$70008.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$74400.00 annual
