About The Team

The College of Environmental and Life Sciences includes the Schools of Agricultural Science; Environmental and Conservational Science; Medical Molecular and Forensic Science; and Veterinary Medicine.

The Outreach and Future Students Team inspire future students by raising aspirations and connecting them with courses and experiences that encourage enrolment at Murdoch University. Bridging these areas the Technical Officer Outreach works closely with Outreach Officers the Future Students Team academic stakeholders and student ambassadors to deliver laboratory-based engagement activities leveraging technical expertise and resources to support external engagement within the College.

Your New Role!

The Senior Technical Officer (ELS) coordinates and supports laboratory-based outreach activities for the College of Environmental and Life Sciences working closely with Technical and Outreach teams to deliver targeted and engaging experiences to the wider community.

Your key responsibilities will include

  • Prepare source and set up materials specimens and equipment for laboratory-based outreach; manage procurement inventory and maintenance; and ensure compliance with safety procedures SOPs and University Policies
  • Provide technical guidance to staff student ambassadors and external partners; develop and enhance outreach activities; and support engaging high-quality laboratory experiences across the College of Environmental and Life Sciences
  • Coordinate and supervise student ambassadors and technical staff; build effective partnerships across University teams; and promote University values equity diversity and a positive student experience

This Continuous Part time (22.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $99697 $109844 (pro rata) plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What youll bring to the role:

  • A degree in a biological science (e.g. Biomedical Forensic or Microbiology) with relevant experience or extensive expertise gained through extensive technical experience and/or training
  • Strong understanding of the Biological Sciences with demonstrated experience working in research teaching or clinical laboratory environments
  • High-level organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks meet deadlines and work independently across diverse responsibilities
  • Effective communication customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and constructively with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • High computer proficiency willingness to learn new systems and sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements in ELS laboratory operations
