JOB SUMMARY:
The Sponsored Grant Programs Accountant performs financial analysis make accounting entries and maintain balances to ensure that transactions are properly recorded and comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Education and other regulatory agencies and is in support of the districts mission. This position requires oversight of all financial activities for Title funding sources and other programs as needed. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Business and Finance department. This position is a federally funded Title position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Review all financial transactions related to Title funding to ensure they meet funding requirements and expenditure allowability. Develop Title budgets and collaborate with Human Resources on staffing allocations.
- Prepare various reports and financial documents including but not limited to:
- Consolidated Accountability and Support Application (CASA)
- Monthly claim and transaction reports within CASA
- State and Federal compliant reports including Certified Annual Report (CAR) and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Council of Great City Schools data collection
- Ad hoc reports as needed
- Monitor program budgets conduct reconciliations and analysis and recommend spending adjustments aligned with deadlines and available funding.
- Serve as a financial liaison to administrators in Des Moines Public Schools and non-public schools regarding budget questions around allowable and appropriate costs.
- Ensure account numbers for Title funding meet the Iowa Department of Education reporting requirements.
- Review and approve workflow for Title entries prepared by district personnel.
- Maintain professional learning and growth through professional organizations seminars course work and collaboration. Participate in professional development opportunities for continued learning of school business accounting.
- Other duties as assigned.
