Our highly respected Risk Advisory department in the UK and Ireland is primarily responsible for the delivery of consultancy-based safety integrity and risk management services. We provide high quality advisory services to the onshore and offshore oil and gas sector (upstream midstream and downstream) and increasingly provide similar services to the evolving hydrogen carbon dioxide and renewables sectors.

Within this our specialist integrity teams deliver a range of critical consultancy services such as failure investigation fitness for service assessment stress analysis of fixed and floating structures life extension risk-based inspection asset health assessment vibration assessment and risk management to operators in support of their ongoing operations.

We are also leading our industry in advising clients how to repurpose their existing assets for the transportation of hydrogen or carbon dioxide to support the energy transition and deliver the innovative solutions that our industry and planet needs. This multi-disciplinary approach with materials and integrity engineers working alongside our other discipline experts drawn from safety flow assurance and rotating equipment is what makes what we do unique.

Our Opportunity:

As a Graduate Structural Engineer within our growing Asset Integrity Section and Fixed and Floating Structures Team you will join a diverse and experienced team of structural and mechanical engineers delivering high quality structural consultancy services to a wide range of clients. We have a strong track record of developing talented engineers into industry experts and welcome candidates who are keen to apply their technical background within the offshore and renewables sectors.

Using your Structural Civil or Mechanical Engineering degree youll contribute to the delivery of technical work and project activities while also supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues as you progress. Your technical foundation will support the delivery of structural analyses in line with international codes and standards ensuring quality timeliness and cost efficiency.

You will also have opportunities to gain exposure to project management and commercial activities including supporting and leading technical proposal development:

  • Linear and non-linear structural analyses
  • Detailed finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Fatigue and Fracture mechanics assessments
  • Risk based inspection (RBI) planning and management
  • General structural engineering assessments
  • Assessment of fixed jackets and topsides
  • Modelling hydrodynamic and structural assessment of floating structures
  • Assessment of helideck structure
  • Blast analysis
  • Passive Fire Protection (PFP) optimisation studies

Our structured Graduate Programme therefore provides a fantastic start to your career enhancing both your technical and professional skills whilst supporting your journey towards chartership and becoming an expert in your field. There will also be opportunities for working across our other specialist Asset Integrity / Risk Advisory teams and wider DNV group on a range of exciting energy asset technology projects. You will have opportunities to travel to client sites across the UK to support on site data collection activities.

Youll be stretched but always supported so dont worry if the Energy industry or some of the terminology is unfamiliar to you well teach you all you need to know. Upon joining youll receive a buddy to help you settle in a mentor to enhance your technical knowledge as well as ongoing on-the-job coaching and support from your colleagues.

Primarily based at our office in Aberdeen youll initially be in the office most days helping you get fully immersed with your colleagues and the work you will be doing. Once youre settled into the role and fully up to speed we offer a more hybrid model of workingtypically a 3/2 split between office and hometo give you the best balance of collaboration and autonomy.

The role will also include some work at customer offices and sites in the UK and overseas with offshore assignments a possibility and will therefore require flexibility and a willingness to work on short to medium term assignments as required.

Qualifications

As a Graduate we do want you to share our passion for your career development within our industry and demonstrate your desire to develop yourself within this exciting area. We try to keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum but there are a few essential things needed to qualify for this position:

  • Minimum 2:1 Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally including the commitment to complete the appropriate professional registration in your field (Chartership)
  • Excellent numerical analytical and problem-solving skills along with ability to produce clear and concise technical reports for our customers
  • Motivation to contribute to the energy transition including the repurposing of existing infrastructure
  • Pro-active willingness to learn new skills displaying a willingness to get stuck in and undertake work outside your comfort zone demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / thinking through the problem
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills confident in building professional relationships and demonstrating first class written verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives

We would also hope that you would possess an interest and developed some understanding in some of the following technical areas as part of your studies:

  • Data analysis finite element modelling including hydrodynamic analysis
  • Familiarity with DNV SESAM/USFOS and/or Abaqus is preferred; experience with similar analysis tools is also valuable
  • Understanding of fixed and floating structures stress analysis materials behaviour or structural mechanics
