ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY - Bellingham WA (98225
) Responsibilities:
Provides legal representation to clients at all stages of legal proceedings.
Reviews discovery and court pleadings researches legal issues raised by the facts and counsel clients involved in these proceedings.
Directs investigation of case and communicates on a regular basis with investigators and experts to coordinate internees disclosures and use of the discovery process to compel records.
Visits crime scenes and all other case related sites.
Prepares and brings motions presents legal arguments clearly and logically in written and verbal form.
Conducts pretrial negotiations with assigned prosecutors.
Conducts bench trials and jury trials.
Communicates regularly with clients.
Works cooperatively with co-counsel staff and interns.
Independently manages a caseload with efficiency to ensure each client receives best possible representation.
Comply with continuing requirements to improve effectiveness. Maintain knowledge of current practices and developments in the law. Attend continuing legal education seminars as required by the WSBA.
Interact with all participants of the criminal justice system in a way that promotes respect including clients who may be struggling.
Position requires a commitment to zealously defend clients at all stages of criminal proceedings.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in criminal law preferred but not required.
Member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association or Rule 9 status.
Strong communication skills.
Salary & Benefits:
$80000 $135000 salary (DOE & qualifications)
