SUMMARY:

  • The Construction Manager is responsible for managing the on-site Axalta Construction Team at the Front Royal Site while also acting as a primary point of contact for non-resident 3rd party construction contractors working at the Site. They ensure the safety of all construction activities on-site through adherence to company policies and promoting a Goal Zero safety culture for their team. The Construction Manager will proactively communicate work schedules and scope to area teams and coordinate construction activities in such a way to minimize disruption to plant operations while maximizing construction resource efficiency. They will also assist in managing project and site costs by monitoring charge rates of the Axalta Construction Team and act as a primary reviewer of change orders from non-resident 3rd party construction contractors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Project Team Leads (PTLs) to plan schedule and coordinate construction activities to support project needs as well as larger business needs; Provide periodic updates on construction progress and assist PTLs in resolving issues that arise during construction.
  • Oversee construction activities for capital projects or significant maintenance projects that install new equipment or upgrade existing systems; Assist in delivering these projects safely on time and in-budget.
  • Act as the de facto field administrator for capital project construction work at the Front Royal Site
  • Effectively lead the Axalta Front Royal Mechanical and Electrical Construction Crews with responsibility for all aspects of safety quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate charging of Axalta Construction Crews to capital projects and monitor charging rate as a contribution to Manufacturing Period Expense
  • Establish clear performance expectations monitor and provide periodic feedback to promote growth.
  • Consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal skills integrity and relationship management skills.
  • Motivate influence and positively affect / embrace / drive change.
  • Is responsible for coaching counseling career development and recognition of employees as appropriate.
  • Monitors the performance of personnel and takes corrective action when necessary to maintain established company site or Axalta Way standards.

  • Implementing and monitoring all construction related activities at the site as per approved drawings methods and safety rules.
  • Ensuring that all equipment systems are installed and functioning properly.
  • Coordinating with other engineers and contractors to ensure that all mechanical systems are integrated with other building systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction blueprints etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma minimum but Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent with 20 years related experience in Industrial Plant Maintenance or Industrial Construction or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous people management experience required
  • Extensive experience with General Work/Hot Work/Confined Space Entry/Crane Lift permitting; preferably at Axalta
  • OSHA 30 training preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word Powerpoint Excel etc.) required
  • Experience with SAP required (maintenance or project transactions)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project (or similar) preferred

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong project management capabilities: including planning resource allocation and schedule adherence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Supports and demonstrates One Axalta behaviors.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be willing to work flexible work hours and overtime as needed.
  • Climbing on and working from fixed and portable ladders or scaffolds while wearing a safety harness.
