Job Summary

Description

The diversity of the property rights and interests comprising the Scottish Crown Estate means that decisions on investment use and sale of assets have the potential to deliver significant economic social and environmental benefits for communities and business across Scotland. Community wealth building impact investing blue carbon (carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems) the transition to decarbonised energy and preventing nature loss are all areas of focus and opportunity for Crown Estate Scotland.

The Chair will play a major role in leading the Board to harness the expertise of the organisation and the potential of the assets it manages and shaping the organisation for the future. The new corporate plan for 2026 to 2031 ishere and the most recent annual report and accounts arehere.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Priority Criterion

We have identified a priority criterion which we consider to be particularly important for this role:

  1. Proven strategic leadership capability in a complex high profile organisation

Essential Criteria

Successful candidates must also demonstrate evidence of the following:

  1. The ability to balance competing interests when considering strategic approaches or decisions that engage economic social and environmental factors

  2. Proven track record of taking successful commercial and/or investment decisions using a clear risk management approach andtaking into account external and system risks including markets

  3. Understanding of the Scottish political and social context in which Crown Estate Scotland operates

  4. Proven track record of ensuring high standards of organisational governance integrity and accountability

  5. Excellent communication skills and a strong capability to engage sensitively with multiple stakeholders (assessed throughout the selection process).

Qualifications

REMUNERATION AND TIME COMMITMENT

Remuneration is 400.00per day for a time commitment of one to twodays per week. The time commitment is flexible and will be discussed further at interview stage. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. The appointment is non-pensionable.
