A Day in the Life:

Reporting to the Production Supervisors this position is responsible for safely operating and maintaining process and equipment to ensure quality is met in the most efficient manner possible. The Production Technician must consistently perform all operator job functions in accordance with Bunge PQSE policies and procedures including quality safety and environmental standards.

Position Details:

  • This role is on a 12 hour rotating shift schedule
    • Training will be 2 month of Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts
  • The hourly rate for this role is 37.00/hr

What Youll Be Doing:

The following duties and responsibilities are not to be considered inclusive of all requirements of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be required or will be assigned as deemed appropriated by management.

  • Maintain knowledge of all departmental safety standards policies and procedures. Additionally the position requires that operators promote encourage and enforce the safety compliance by all Bunge personnel and contractor personnel working in the department
  • Maintain knowledge of Bunge PQSE policies and procedures and comply with them on a consistent basis ensuring that all safety and housekeeping programs are being carried out in an acceptable manner
  • Continuously monitor all department processes through frequent visual inspections and the HMI (computer) screens. All equipment and processes are to be operated safely and efficiently.
  • Make appropriate process adjustments to ensure target product quality goals and standards are achieved in conjunction with co-workers and supervisors
  • Make operational decisions that minimize operating the plant at reduced rate and that reduce the potential for unscheduled operational down time in conjunction with co-workers and supervisors
  • Communicate to the Production Supervisors any problems that could have a detrimental effect on safety production product quality and equipment life
  • Ensure that all required samples are collected and properly labeled
  • Support or initiate tasks/activities in stopping and starting the plant process and equipment whether the shutdown is planned or unplanned. Minimize the time requirements the loss of product and potential equipment damage that could occur during start-ups or shutdowns. During plant shutdowns the production technician will insure that all processes and equipment are in a safe and secure mode at all times
  • Support the activities of personnel during shutdowns to ensure that:
  • Equipment is properly isolated locked & tagged and safe to work on
  • Personnel are following proper safety procedures wearing proper PPE and using the proper tools for the job assigned
  • Personnel are utilized in an effective manner that will minimize plant down-time including; but not limited to:
  • Various routine equipment pms that can be managed by operating personnel
  • Preparing work sites for maintenance
  • Assisting maintenance with repairs
  • Housekeeping as needed
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of all equipment and processes used for the production of canola oil and meal. This includes all prep extraction and steam plant equipment and systems
  • Display the ability to control the above mentioned equipment and processes in a manner that is safe and efficient
  • Cooperate with the activities of shift crew members maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure that all work in the department are being performed in a safe effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate logs and notes ensure the accuracy of all department logs notes and production reports.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative for monitoring and controlling all the activities within the department while making operational decisions with minimal supervision.

Restrictions: all employees must be trained and observed to ensure they are capable of performing duties of this role in a safe and efficient manner. The Production Technician is qualified to operate in all areas of the plant with the exception of the Control Room / Boiler Room. This includes:

  • Operate in the prep plant
  • Operate in the extraction plant
  • Complete the required QC testing on daily basis for each area of responsibility
  • Production Technician positions will rotate through the Prep Plant and Extraction Plant to become familiar with the operating processes and equipment

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • This position requires the incumbent to possess a current and valid drivers license in the province of Alberta (Class 5 or equivalent)
  • Grade 12 Education required
  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certification or higher is required
  • Ability to work days and nights. Shift schedules may change on a frequent basis as required by the business
