CLASSIFICATION: SUPPORT STAFF
TITLE: ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN - MEDICAID
CALENDAR: 2611H FT (261 DAYS)
SALARY: GRADE 113 (SUPPPORT HOURLY)
Job Goal:
The Medicaid Specialist is responsible for coordinating monitoring and managing the school districts Medicaid (AHCCCS) reimbursement programs including Medicaid in Schools (MIS) Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) and School-Based Claiming (SBC). This position ensures compliance with federal and Arizona state regulations maintains accurate documentation supports providers with required data entry and maximizes eligible reimbursement to the district.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medicaid special education services healthcare billing or school district finance.
- Knowledge of Medicaid (AHCCCS) regulations ICD/CPT coding basics and documentation requirements.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Outlook Word) and comfort working with databases or billing platforms.
- Strong attention to detail analytical skills and ability to identify errors and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent communication skills for working with providers staff vendors and state agencies.
- Satisfactory criminal background check
Core Job Functions:
- Administer all components of the districts Medicaid reimbursement programs including MAC SBC Random Moment Time Study (RMTS) and direct service claiming.
- Act as district liaison with AHCCCS the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System and contracted Medicaid billing vendors.
- Monitor state and federal regulatory updates and ensure district processes remain compliant.
- Train and support staff participating in Medicaid programs including paraeducators therapists nurses psychologists special education providers and service coordinators.
- Verify and maintain student eligibility data parental consent records and service documentation.
- Review validate and reconcile submitted claims ensuring accurate coding and timely submission.
- Track claim denials collaborate with vendors to resolve discrepancies and file corrections as needed.
- Maintain district Medicaid records data and audit-ready documentation according to retention requirements.
- Prepare monthly quarterly and annual reports for internal stakeholders including reimbursement summaries and participation metrics.
- Assist with internal and external audits ensuring complete and accurate information is provided.
- Support budgeting and revenue forecasting related to Medicaid reimbursement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
