New Zealand Police is seeking a Business Analyst to join our dynamic and highly regarded ICT Business Analysis Team based at the ICT Building in central Porirua.

With a primary hub in Wellington and a presence throughout the country NZ Police ICT delivers new and enhanced solutions directly and through specialist vendor partnerships. We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Polices strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.

NZ Police ICT has adopted an Agile product-oriented operating model to deliver these solutions. The Business Analysis Team provides the necessary business analysis capability to support the delivery of operational products and services through enduring product teams.

A Business Analyst interacts with subject matter experts from Police operational groups creating business requirements definition and system requirements as part of a product team enabling the delivery of world class cost effective and operationally efficient applications.

Polices Product based Business Analyst needs to develop strong technical understanding and work as part of the product delivery team who delivers high quality solutions quickly and delights our customers

Key Accountabilities:

  • Undertake discovery problem definition and solution option identification within relevant products and applications.
  • Work directly with internal business customers to understand problems and identify business and system requirements.
  • Facilitate workshop and group discussions with a range of audiences including senior executive stakeholders with ability to present complex or technical issues (written or verbal) clearly and adapt your style or approach to individual situations and audiences.
  • Ensure requirements are captured to a high quality clearly identifying the high value-stream ready for development.
  • Develop and maintain product specific documentation.
  • Work independently and as a member of a product team.
  • Leverage existing features processes and requirements for efficient application development where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the identification and management of risks and issues.
  • Maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
  • Ability to manage competing product team deliverable demands when necessary.
  • Stay up-to-date with latest developments within the BA profession with the intent of discussing if they could be beneficial to the Police BA practice and products teams if appropriate.

  • Excellent customer and stakeholder engagement skills able to break technical concepts down into simple terms for a range of non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in elicitation of requirements requirements definition and requirements management throughout the product delivery life cycle.
  • Proficiency in system analysis techniques supporting system design and adhering to recognised methodologies & practices.
  • Experience in the creation and maintenance of application and system documentation. These may include UML use cases Agile User Stories application specifications and support documentation etc
  • Experience in developing and using analysis techniques e.g. logical data model business process modelling story maps etc.
  • Sound business analysis experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with mature applications that are complex in nature with multiple integration points with other systems.

  • The role is based at an ICT Building in Central Porirua. Some regional travel may be required on occasion.

  • You will hold either a tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Agile certifications are an advantage and preference is that you hold at least Agile fundamentals certification at minimum.
