Job Title: LGV Driver

Department: Transport

Location: Service Centre

Reports To: Fleet & Transport Manager and Driver Team Manager.

Job Purpose:

To ensure the speedy efficient and accurate delivery of assembled products and invoices to the customer within corporate guidelines.

Key Accountabilities

• To maintain a safe a competent standard of driving observing speed limits and other traffic signs and giving due regard to other road users.

• To have a daily check to ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition including a check of the lights brakes coolant etc.

• To report any faults breakdowns accidents or delays.

• To abide by all tacho-graph laws and ensure daily/weekly rests are taken as required

• Ensure all Proof of Deliveries listed on drop sheets have been delivered to customers and report any shortages to the transport department before leaving the customer.

• Upon receipt of collection request collect goods returned from external customers as instructed by the transport staff.

• To maintain the internal and external condition of the vehicle together with the cleanliness of the vehicle.

• To ensure sufficient quantities of fuel have been taken for the days work.

• To maintain the security of the vehicle and its contents at all times.

• To check all orders shown on the dropsheets and ensure all orders are loaded on the vehicle.

• Ensure all trailer seal numbers are logged before departure and before opening at the service centre or external customer.

• Ensure damages/breakages are dealt with promptly and correctly with due regard to special procedures for HazChems.

• To maintain a smart appearance at all times.

• To help maintain good customer relations.

• To maintain at all times good communications with the transport staff based at the service centre.

• To be involved in other duties as may be defined from time to time by the Management.

• Meet all Health & Safety requirements.

Knowledge Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

• A full driving license must be held relevant to the vehicle being driven

• Existing employees must update fleet services accordingly with any changes to their license status e.g. points on their license driving bans etc

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent Customer care

• Intermediate Numeracy and Literacy

• Previous experience of multi-drop delivery driving is highly desirable

• Route planning experience

Key Dimensions:

No managerial responsibility and no direct influence on budget

Key Working Relationships:

• Constant interaction with external customers

• Regular liaison with other Drivers and members of the transport team

Level of Decision Making:

• Required to act on own initiative and work unsupervised

• Required to monitor the condition of own vehicle and report and damages or faults

• Serious faults or damages may result in the Driver making the decision the vehicle is not roadworthy

Additional Information:

Drivers are required to maintain a smart appearance due to their constant interaction with external customers in uniform provided.
