Background on NYCEM:
New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) is a coordinating agency for the City of New York. The agency plans and prepares for emergencies educates the public about preparedness coordinates emergency response and recovery and collects and disseminates emergency information. The agency maintains a disciplined unit of emergency management personnel including but not limited to attorneys responders planners watch commanders logisticians community outreach communications administrative and support staff to identify and respond to various hazards.
The Response Bureau is responsible for monitoring incidents throughout the City alert the public and City agencies initiate NYCEM response on-scene coordination and special event planning and coordination. It is comprised of Watch Command Field Response Unit and the Response Support Unit which includes the Special Events team.
The mission of the Response Support Unit and the Special Events Team is to ensure the safety and success of special events throughout the city and supporting other aspects of NYCEMs response operations. They collaborate closely with NYC state and federal agencies to provide logistical and operational support contributing to the resilience and preparedness of New York City.
Description of Project/ Intern Responsibilities:
The Response Support Unit is looking for a college aide to support Summer 2026 Special Events including but not limited to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Sail 4th 250. The college aide will be responsible for administrative and operational tasks including strategic planning support project management tracking and coordinating with Watch Command and Public Warning detailed staff.
-Schedule and track meetings for Special Event informational meetings
-Maintain and organize teams folders for the Special Event team
-Provide administrative support by creating forms and sending emails for Special Events
-Supporting the operational planning behind the 2026 FIFA World Cup Sail 4th 250 and concurrent summer events
-Support Summer 2026 staffing through coordination with Watch Command and Public Warning
-Other tasks as assigned
Education and Experience Level: Bachelors Degree or Higher

Qualifications :
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or closely related field including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
