The Team Youll Work With:
The Mayors Office of Climate and Environmental Justice (MOCEJ) is a team of architects lawyers data and climate scientists engineers policy advisors geologists and city planners working to create a city where our 8.8 million New Yorkers can live work learn and play in healthy resilient and sustainable neighborhoods. MOCEJ integrates sustainability resiliency and environmental justice into one coordinated approach across several climate and environmental offices all working to make our buildings efficient and resilient; our infrastructure climate-ready; our streets open spaces and public realm active safe and healthy; and our energy clean and resilient. All New Yorkers deserve safe healthy resilient and sustainable environments even as the climate changes.

MOCEJ is committed to improving environmental quality for all prioritizing front-line communities seeking to redress current and past injustices and inequities while creating economic opportunities for all. Through science-based analysis policy and program development and capacity building MOCEJ leads the Citys efforts to ensure that New York City is minimizing its contributions to climate change preparing to adapt and protect New Yorkers from extreme weather and multiple climate hazards and giving every New Yorker a meaningful voice in our citys future.

The Problems Youll Solve:
The Policy Advisor on the Environmental Justice team will lead efforts to engage New York City residents climate and environmental justice community-based organizations (CBOs) and environmental advocates in supporting MOCEJs mission and initiatives. Reporting to the Deputy Director Environmental Justice this role requires a strategic thinker with strong relationship-building skills and a track record of successful engagement with the nonprofit and public sectors.

Responsibilities will include:
-Develop and implement strategies to engage New Yorkers CBOs and environmental advocates in supporting MOCEJs mission and initiatives including for the Citys first Environmental Justice Plan (EJNYC Plan).
-Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the nonprofit sector particularly CBOs focused on climate and environmental justice.
-Manage the Environmental Justice Advisory Board engagement and communications sub-working group.
-Identify opportunities for collaboration with CBOs (such as members of the Environmental Justice Advisory Board the Climate Justice Hub and other EJ coalitions) on climate and environmental justice policies.
-Support the Environmental Justice team with updates to the EJNYC Mapping Tool and support the development and maintenance of high-quality data products.
-Support the Environmental Justice team with the EJNYC planning and implementation efforts once the final EJNYC Plan is released.
-Prepare briefing materials presentations and other communications materials for internal and external stakeholders.
-Represent MOCEJ at meetings conferences and other events and promote the organizations priorities and initiatives to private sector partners.
-Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement initiatives that leverage CBO resources and expertise to advance MOCEJs mission.
-Track and report on progress towards MOCEJs community engagement goals and recommend adjustments to strategies as needed.
-Stay abreast of emerging trends and developments in the EJ advocacy space related to climate and environmental issues.

About You:
-You have experience in engaging with the nonprofit sector on issues related to climate and environmental justice.
-You have strong intercultural competence and experience working with diverse communities.
-You have strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with stakeholders at all levels and socioeconomic backgrounds.
-You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-You have strong research and analytical skills.
-You have familiarity with New York Citys governmental structure and policy context.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
-Bachelors Degree required.
-3 years of experience.

Qualifications :

1. Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university

2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative analytic coordinative supervisory or liaison responsibilities

3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question 2 above

4. Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions 1 2 and/or 3 above
