Summary:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the execution of quality assurance strategies and systems within a suspension manufacturing facility producing shocks and struts. This role works closely with plant leadership engineering operations and suppliers to ensure product quality customer satisfaction and compliance with internal and external standards.
The Quality Engineer helps develop quality priorities and improvement initiatives supports the implementation of quality systems and serves as a key resource for problem solving root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities. This role exercises independent judgment while operating within established quality systems and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development implementation and maintenance of plant Quality Management Systems.
- Lead and facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action activities using structured problem-solving tools (8D 5 Whys etc.).
- Support supplier quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues.
- Work directly with customers when required to address quality concerns and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Manage and disposition Material Inspection Reports (MIR) and Quality Incident Reports (QIR).
- Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities including PSW production runs.
- Implement monitor and analyze Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs to ensure process stability and capability.
- Train technicians and operators on quality measurement techniques inspection methods and reporting processes.
- Provide quality data analysis and technical support to cross-functional teams including manufacturing engineering and supply chain.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects and improving process capability.
- Monitor and report plant quality performance metrics on a daily weekly and monthly basis.
- Track improvement initiatives and communicate results through measurable data reports and visual metrics.
- Lead daily scrap reviews and prepare weekly scrap analysis reports to identify trends and corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of quality teamwork and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quality manufacturing or engineering role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in automotive or component manufacturing is preferred.
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) strongly preferred.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of quality systems and manufacturing processes in a production environment.
- Experience working with engineering specifications drawings procedures and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with precision measurement equipment and inspection techniques.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies including: Statistical Process Control (SPC) Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) 8D Problem Solving Design of Experiments (DOE) Lean / Kaizen continuous improvement activities
- Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in standard business and data analysis software.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not include direct supervision of staff
Working Conditions
- Ability to sit stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production operations.
