About Mavs

The Maverick Volleyball Club serves Ottawa and its surrounding communities in providing our youth with high-quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership organizational team and life skills for the benefit of its members. Maverick Volleyball is seeking experienced dedicated and high-performing coaches to lead the National teams at the 17U and 18U levels.


Program Descriptions

Maverick teams have been competing successfully across Ontario at the Club level since its inception in September 1985. Competitions depend on program level and can include local and regional tournaments OVA tournaments across the province / inter-provincially or can include international and national competitions. Each level is defined by the skill and aspirations of the athlete combined with levels of time and travel commitment agreeable to the family.


National

The national-level experience provides a solid launch pad for elite athletes as they pursue a post-secondary volleyball career. Our national-level high performance program is developed to fully address all aspects of competition and training that lead to an athlete performing at their highest potential.


Job Summary

Reporting to the National & Provincial Program Manager the Head Coach is responsible for providing quality coaching and leadership of a National team. This includes developing an appropriate yearly seasonal training plan planning and executing practices coaching tournaments and games managing athletes expectation and goals communicating with athletes and parents mentoring and developing assistant coaches as well as some other administrative this year the Head Coach at this level will be required to plan and manage the teams off-season training.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and adjust an appropriate yearly seasonal training plan
  • Planning and executing practices
  • Coaching tournaments and games
  • Managing athletes growth expectation and goals
  • Continued coach development
  • Communicating with athletes and parents about schedule etc.
  • Mentoring assistant coaches in their development
  • Completing administrative tasks


Essential Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience as a post-secondary athlete OR
  • 5 years of coaching experience
  • 1 year of mentoring/training assistant coaches

Competencies & Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of volleyball technical and tactical concepts (skills techniques rules game play etc.)
  • Mastery of various coaching & learning theories and strategies
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Effective planning
  • Superior interpersonal skills especially regarding communication with athletes mentoring coaches and interacting with parents

Education

  • NCCP Trained Development Coach Certification (required)


Asset

Education

  • NCCP Advanced Development Coach Certification

Language

  • Bilingual (English French)


Important Information

All Maverick travelling-level teams are managed under the fully-accredited not-for-profit division of the organization. Coaches are offered a volunteering position with a semi-annual honorarium based on experience and certifications with a series of benefits.

Guidelines for the off-season planning exercise

Document must be submitted attached to your application and must include:

  • Twostrength & conditioning sessions per weekplus oneactive recovery day(starting July 1 2026)
  • Twoclub-delivered on-court sessions per weekthrough the Post-Secondary Development Program (assume July 2 2026 start and August 14 2026 end)
  • Leads:Frank St-Denis (Males)andJudi Mousseau (Females)
  • Beginning thethird week of July coaches may addoneadditional120-minute on-court session per week lead by the cohort Head Coaches
  • Week of August 17-21 2026 cohort Head coaches may add up to three additional120-minute on-court sessions for that week
  • Coaches may schedulemental skills nutrition team building classroom learning andappropriaterestperiods as desired
  • Plans can besubmittedinExcel or Word using any template and may assume typical weekly structures (i.e. on-court Monday/Wednesday S&C sessions Mental Skills Thursday etc.).
