Job Summary
5-6 Months contract with a local authority
Job Purpose
- The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Plymouth City Councils fleet workshop ensuring the effective delivery of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance inspections MOT testing and repairs. The role ensures full compliance with Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) regulations and the Councils Operating Licence.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Oversee all daily workshop operations ensuring timely and compliant delivery of scheduled maintenance unscheduled repairs and statutory inspections.
- Ensure all fleet inspections maintenance and testing are completed in line with legislation VOSA standards and Council policies.
- Maintain productivity levels consistent with commercial garage operations.
- Arrange prompt repairs for accident-damaged vehicles and manage warranty claims.
- Ensure accurate documentation record-keeping and high-quality inspection standards.
Essential Experience Required
- Significant experience managing a workshop garage or fleet maintenance operation.
- Extensive experience delivering VOSA-compliant MOT testing and inspections under an Operating Licence.
- Significant experience managing commercial service delivery including income generation.
- Demonstrable experience delivering excellent customer service.
Essential Qualifications Required
- GCSE Grade A*C / 94 in Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Vehicle Technician qualification (or equivalent) OR substantial proven experience managing a vehicle workshop.
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Full UK driving licence.
Additional Information
- Working hours: 37 hours per week
- Location: Prince Rock Depot Macadam Road Prince Rock Plymouth Devon PL4 0RZ United Kingdom
- To cover opening times (shift working) 0600-1700 Mon-Fri with very occasional Saturday working but with time off in lieu.
- Driving Licence required. Must be HGV Vehicle compliance aware.
- Interviews will take place at PCC Prince Rock Depot Garage Meeting Room and will consist of questions relating to procedures Plymouth City Council IT skills GDPR etc.
- We operate on a bi-weekly payment schedule.
